Hmmmm bike utterings from yesterdays ride!
Been quiet on here last few days so I thought I would write down my findings from my ride yesterday, now I have my new xootr, comfy saddle and cranecreek suspension post etc etc, its great on fast smooth roads but a pain in the arse on anything broken, paths etc so yesterday went on a 29 mile bike ride, some on gravelly uneven road and paths through the coast and countryside, my GF rode my xootr I took my 10 year old single speed electra rallysport with a brooks 173 saddle and we also did a 26 miler last weekend same bikes, I found dare I say I prefer my cruiser, ok its not great on hills as I have 1 gear but she was thrown and bucked all over the road and paths, she does not have great confidence anyway even though she loves the bike but even on my 10 mile round trip to work and back I find it uncomfortable even though I have the above add ons and raised bars, I just love the the smooth cushioned ride of my cruiser and can go as far as any other bike I have or owned in the past just as well apart from where I could do with some extra gears.
Anyone else found they had this dilemma? only other downside is the width of the bars on the cruiser as some places are quite narrow to get past other people and riders but I get so much attention on both bikes but the cruiser just attracts folk like flies around turds, maybe its just me getting older (42) but my arthritic joints, boney arse and bad back just seek comfort with some speed and bling thrown in, I will keep my xootr as its more practical everyday to get upstairs etc but riding along past the lycra clad matching team jersey lot just looked as if I had 2 heads when I rode by smiling and giving the bikers nod while they were sweating along on a lovely summers day I was chilled, relaxed, at one with nature and felt cool as the Fonz in an ice bucket challenge!
