I was packing/folding up my Dahon Speed 7 into a suitcase and as I was removing the wheels I needed a 15mm wrench for the axle nut and a 17mm? wrench for the skewer. Is this normal or should the skewer be loose enough that I only need a wrench for the axle nut? I'm not concerned when traveling but if I got a flat I think I would be SOL.
Your axle nut(green arrow) usually takes a 15mm,that should be all you need. If you were messing with your hub's nuts(red arrow),then you need to fix it(here's how). Those should only be adjusted when there's an issue, and don't have anything to do with wheel removal. Also,a pic of what you're talking about would help.
