Blue Star folders
I want to get a folder and I have very limited funds. I found some cheap deals, but I couldn't find any info on the bikes. Here are the ones:
Blue Star: Has anyone had any experience with them? They are really cheap - $120.
Here is the website:
https://www.foldupbicycle.com/
Also, Walmart has another bike:
https://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...785#long_descr
does anyone know about it?

i would recommend finding a used Dahon on e bay or buying a 20 inch wheeled or 16 inch wheeled yeah brand bicycle. What will you use the bicycle for?The bikes ihave seen look undergeared and I do not see complete spec available for the blue star bicycles and the walmart marketed bike needs to go on a diet.If you wish to modify a bike once you buy it, I have done that to improve gearing.Feel free to P.M regarding this issue. I did not see detailed specifications for the blue star bicycles that always make me leery. The blue stars do look undergeared though .I checked the specs on the 2, 20 inch bicycles and the number of teeth in the front chainring is not given neither is the range of the 5 speed freewheel . I suspect it is the standard 14- 28 5 speed freewheel . If the front chainring is a 42T your top gear will be 60 inches your low will be 30 inches. The city bike might be okay for commuting .As i write a 16 inch wheeled 6 speed Yeah Bicycle in yellow is avaiable on e bay price is 109 dollars.

I will be using it to commute to the train station most days of the week. The ride would be 1-2 miles each way, so 2-4 miles a day. I looked at the Dahons and I am interested in the boardwalk 7. It seems like a good bike for what I need. I am a little concerned to drop $300 on it though, so that is why I was looking at some atlernatives. If the Dahon is a decent bike and fairly comfortable, I would buy it. I need to test ride it though.
I checked out the devasport bikes (the Yeah) bikes. They look pretty nice to me. I was wondering if anyone had any experiece with them? Would it be worth it to buy or should I just go ahead and get the Dahon?

dahon is one of the best commuter folders around.I have a boardwalk 6 and i have heard nothing but good things about it on Dahon forums from owners, I have also ridden mine a bit and have no complaints myself.Ride one if you can though to make sure it is a good fit for you .I am concerned that if you buy the blue star it won't be quite what you want and you will end up getting rid of it or be disillusioned with folders. There are some dahon boardwalk 7's on e bay do not overbid though if you go that route.A yeah is a good sturdy folder made with liscensed dahon technology but it will be heavier and cruder than a Dahon.I have two yeah folders one with 16 inch and the other with 20 inch wheels they both began as 6 speeds and then were converted to 7 speeds .They are now both 1 speeds the 16 inch is a fixed wheel with a 60 inch gear and the 20 inch is a single speed with a bmx freewheel and a 57 inch gear. late in the summer i bought a dahon Boardwalk 6 and converted it to a 7 speed with a shimano megarange freewheel. I was still mucking about with the yeahs though so i did not ride it much . If you decide to buy the Yeah off of e bay the simplest things to do are to ride it as is or take the freewheel off slap on a 13T track hub and ride it that way.A dahon classic 3 is also a good cannidate for a fixed wheel conversion all you wil have to do is take off the rearwheel buy a 16 inch bmx wheel and slap on a 13T track cog then shorten the chain to fit. Save the parts in case you want to switch back.Fixed wheels demand that you pedal constantly but are a good conditioning tool and offer better traction on snow and ice braking is accomplished by ******ing forward progress of the pedals .If you live in the Chicago area perhaps you might wish to attend the Chicago bicyle show( april 1, 2 and 3) at Navy pier .This might offer you a chance to ride a Dahon.

Thanks for the response. Hmmm..... now I am not sure what to do. I guess I don't want to modify the bike right away (since I don't know jack about modifing). I guess I will either go with the Dahon or the Yeah. I live in dallas and I found a bike shop that carries Dahons here. I will check them out today or tomorrow.

Welcome back from Dahon shopping. If you want a cheap deal, get the Boardwalk single speed. I could make you an offer on a Worksman 3 speed 16" folder, but then I'd probably just look for another. It is not light, nor refined. but it rides nice and I feel safe with it locked up outside. You really need to save up for a Piccolo if size is important.

Jaboy--I live in Irving and have a Dahon Classic III and Dahon Matrix. You are welcome to come try them out. Send me a PM if you like. I have been carless and bike/train commuting in Dallas for about a year now.
I am actually considering selling the Classic and/or Matrix. (I have an arrangement with my fiance--a 4 bike limit--I have to sell one to buy another.) Drop me a line. If you don't drive, I live just down the street from the TRE station in downtown Irving.
And in case you don't know, Dallas Critical Mass is today at 5pm, corner of Harwood and San Jacinto (one block south of the DMA).

I think you will enjoy the Boardwalk, did you get the single, 3, or 7 speed?
You can google Critical Mass to learn more, the ride started in San Francisco and is held in many cities. The basic idea is that the ride asserts cyclists' right to use the road. It's also a good excuse to get together with other people who ride bikes and cruise around. If you are interested in the Dallas ride, send a message to 2wheelrig@gmail.com, you'll be e-mailed more info.

Good choice. It should be versatile for more than just a 2 or 3 mile commute.
