It's very difficult to determine the value of a used bicycle without inspecting it. Keep in mind that the Dahon warranty is not transferable. So a very thorough inspection of the frame and fork would be prudent. I believe the MSRP on a 2011 Vitesse P18 was $899.00. The Vitesse P18 is not in Dahon's line-up of current USA models, but you might be able to find a new one at a Dahon dealer.

A bike is worth what you are willing to pay for it so $700 may or may not be a number you can live with. Personally I wouldn't buy a bike that close to retail, especially on a bike that is 3 or more years old. I would buy new and get the benefit of a warranty and free servicing that most bike shops offer.

Have you tried a test ride on the bike, or got a chance to check it over, preferably with someone who can do a proper assessment of a folding bike?

We've seen other posters who have gotten burned from what they thought was a great deal on folding bikes.

You may try to negotiate down, as blakcloud mentioned, the selling price is really not that much cheaper than retail. If you should have any problems with worn or damage components to replace/repair, that eats away the difference you saved. As with anything used - buyer beware.

a brandnew 2015 ViscP18 is 999.00 .... that would be 30 % more than a used bike which might or moght not have issues ...
So if you want my opinion I would not go for used ... in this case ... they have been bikes in the past ffered for substantial savings and or upgrades which were done very nicely and those I would go for...

Of course somebody could say .. yeah ....sure he sells those ... but as many peeps know, I suggest quite often to look for a used one ...But it has to be a deal .

I think you are trying to convince us to tell you it's a great deal so buy it.

So once again are those upgrades worth it to you? For example the saddle on the bike. Is that the saddle you actually want when you ride the bike? If not then the upgrade is useless and you now have to buy a new saddle. Are the new headset and handlebars really that much better than what came on the bike originally? Is a Prowheel Ounce crankset really an upgrade?

Ask yourself why is this bike being sold as it is heavily upgraded and customized? Why does the owner want to sell it after all these somewhat new upgrades? Last question, did you already buy it because the CL ad is now in San Diego is now gone? If you did then you must have thought it was a great deal for you.

If you like the bike, buy it. The price when it was new is irrelevant. The question today is whether $700 will buy something else that you might rather have.....or whether you can talk the seller down to a price that you might be more comfortable paying.

I have a very similar bike. You will derive a lot of enjoyment out of this bike, for what it is.

there are some nice upgrades on the bike, but they are only a HAIR nicer than the original stuff, nothing really overwhelming ...
but nice

however that all doesnt matter, you want the bike so go for it

unless it is half price from new I would buy new. the enjoyment of having a brand new bike is priceless

OK bought. Thanks guys. It was in mint condition and the guy took great care of the bike. Plus you save some tax unless you buy online. This also came with a couple of accessories... Probably not the best deal in the world but not a bad deal.

Sometimes, the stingy person winds up paying the most. If the seller got it working in peak form and upgraded all of the parts and saved you that time and trouble, it may have been a better deal in the long run. I hope you enjoy your Dahon as much as I enjoy mine.
