    Brompton "frame lifter"?

I was surfing the net and came across a You-Tube video showing how to install a frame lifter on a Brompton apparently on or near the shock There was no explanation and quite frankly the guys hands blocked much of what he was doing. What does a frame lifter do (please don't just say it lifts the frame) and why would you want to install one?

it's a device designed to give a couple of extra cm clearance from the ground when the bike is in it's folded state. this could be useful if you have M type handlebars with accessories attached or S type bars with long return bar-end grips, etc.
