Those are MEC bikes, Origami is just the model name for them. These are not related to the Origami Bicycle Company.

No kidding. The MEC model is much better and made by Tern (which is mentioned in the original post). I just played off the other Origami For Sale thread since MEC also has a sale on.

I completely disagree. I will put our Crane 8 model up against the MEC product any day of the week. The Crane 8 is much lighter at 27 lbs. (even with its rack and fenders installed), fold narrower (32 vs. 34 cm), has a wider gear range (29 to 90 gear inches), is arguably better looking, costs less, and you don't have to end every sentence with "eh" to buy one.

and that also includes feenders and carrier ( looks like german made SKS fenders and an alloy Carrier which allows to use klickfix accessories and Biologic stuff as well )
better looking is indeed arguable....
cost less ... well you usually get what you pay for ... exceptions granted of course
ending a sentence with "eh"
I actually love this Canadian quirk, good for them, and especially good if they are my customers, love them up there, even if most of them are moaning about high Mail freight charges :-) ( They do have a point , but I cant change that )
Thor
who is NOT even selling those bikes.

I will agree to charge more to those customers who just feel better about paying for what they get. When purchasing, please indicate that we should charge you $599.00 (or whatever higher price makes you comfortable) and we will gladly add the cost for you.
;-)

30.8 lbs. minus 27.0 is 3.8 lbs, not 15 ounces. Yes, 3.8 lbs. is a very significant difference in weight between folding bikes. We also make our racks of aluminum alloy to keep the weight down.
I will agree to charge more to those customers who just feel better about paying for what they get. When purchasing, please indicate that we should charge you $599.00 (or whatever higher price makes you comfortable) and we will gladly add the cost for you.

of course with all weights it usually really is an eye opening experience if you put them on your own scale :-)

The Origami line actually looks very good for the price but the MEC Origami is sold in devalued Canadian dollars and is free shipped or picked up locally. For example, the Crane 8 at $349 U.S. translates to $436 CDN + shipping on top or about what I'd pay up here for the "other" Origami. The MEC Origami can also be serviced locally (if in a big city with an MEC store) and carries a lifetime warranty. Best of all, I can pester Thor for special accessories and parts ThorUSA that will fit a Tern.
I merely added the thread in case other, um, Type "eh" individuals were scanning the forum.
All the best!

The original post did not come from me, but I am happy to see that someone posted about our bikes.
We don't often ship to Canada because of the ungodly-high costs. We do occasionally ship to boarder towns on the US side for folks that want to come across and pick them up without incurring the shipping and taxes.
