    Tired of all the HYPE...

The next new cell phone... better than the last, better than bla bla...

Look who is running for president... the next new bla bla bla...

New and improved... bla bla bla.

It is all getting terribly old... hardly ever does the hype live up to the pitch. Enough already.

If what you have, works, keep it. If you desire nothing, you have all you want. Ahhhh... satisfaction.

With president, you only get one shot to re-up, then you have to actually pay attention... or not.

    I like buying pre-obsolete tech.
I know next to nothing. I am frequently wrong.

Oh me too. And hopefully the article is in the format where we have to click a new page for every app.

The media these days seems to me like the elderly's interpretation of what millennials want in their media, and they're totally failing.

Sideline to the Beautiful Cars thread...:

Say I wanted a car without stuff that breaks. Manual windows and locks. No central console vid screen. Analog heat/cool controls. No electric assist with doors/trunks/hatches. Standard shift. No power steering. Basic, basic, basic. Is there such a beast nowadays?

Concession: aux 1/8" input to radio.

Gonna be hard to find. Might check with fleet or commercial sales. The car companies now build what sells and no longer really allow one to add things or subtract things a la carte. It is all packages.

Sure. I'm not sure how much longer you can evade the screen. What's going to make the screens mandatory pretty soon is a regulation requiring backup cameras. It's pretty hard to find such a vehicle that's not a subcompact or a pickup truck, though. We have been shopping for a minivan and they are all decked out.

I hate the constantly-obsolescing nav and computers in cars. How many useless iPhone docks are out there now?

I do have to say I'm a believer in the automatic collision avoidance, and the same sensors enable radar cruise control which is also pretty nice.

Sometimes I think I'd like buy a new version of some of my older cars with manual steering/windows/door locks but with airbags and ABS.

Amen... My old manual windows and locks work just fine... my wife's car with auto windows and locks has regular intermittent failures (IE expensive repairs). I also have wing windows on my old '91... haven't seen those in well over a decade in any vehicle.

Your concession is now 3mm... and since it is audio, it will work with any source...

Indeed... our whole economy is based on churn... the constant need to hype and oversell everything such that there is a steady demand for the usual mundane crap.

I used to think Gil Scott Heron was right about the next revolution not being televised, now I think it's going to be live streamed to youtube.

My GF's daughter was given an old pickup to drive when she was in high school. We wanted something reliable that no one would bother while it was at the commuter lot when she went to college, and she was perplexed by the manual windows and manual mirrors but not the manual door locks. Her next car came with power windows and locks and a cassette deck(!) - as well as a 5 speed manual transmission. I bet she thinks the automotive world hates her.
