Temporary move to Las Vegas

Are there any locals willing to give inside knowledge on where to live there or places outside of Las Vegas to commute from? Is the housing market stable enough to buy and sell within a year or two?

I can't really answer that questions, but here's a movie that provides some valuable information on the past there.

Well it was either ask here or go to Vegas and read the writing on bathroom stalls. This was cheaper.

But the other choice would probably be more accurate.

I don't think so.

Exhibit A is just more generic recycled advice from Shimanglo. Tell us, where would you go where you'd want to go towards the bats?

I haven't been out there since the recession in 2008, so this might not be the most accurate of information:

- The southern region of the Greater Las Vegas area is the better part; City of Henderson and other nearby areas.
- (City of)North Las Vegas and its surrounding have some of the highest crime rates - property, violent, and the drug trade. There's an air force base north of the area, and some military live in the northern areas, but if you're not in the military and don't want military jet noise (they are LOUD) its better to stay towards the south.
- Immediate area around UNLV is OK, it has some crime, but low rent is the trade-off. Also, the airport's flight pattern in just south of the school so noise can be an issue.
The area north of UNLV is the original 'old town' Las Vegas where the original casinos were located. Lot of old neighborhoods with businesses mixed in, but some are pretty nice.
- 'the Strip' (Las Vegas Blvd) is on the east side of the main highway (Interstate 15). Not sure about the west side, but it is residential and doesn't have any outward indicators of problems (dilapidated houses, abandoned cars, etc); might need a local to get better advice on this area.
