I think Oprie is probably a pretty good person. However when someone becomes a sanctimonious millionaire I start having a problem with their sincerity. It's kind of like the politcal parties in this country. Show me a wealthy Republican who wants to end all taxes and keep all of his money for himself and i am not impressed.

Show me a wealthy Democrat who wants to give his money away, and you have my attention.

Oprah gives her money away all the time. She threw a christmas party for 50,000 african children
http://www2.oprah.com/presents/2003/..._ck_main.jhtml

She also gives other peoples money away, and then of course Oprahs Angel Network which is a fund she set up and every one donates(so its not all her money).

Here's my take on Oprah: It's effed up to tell girls and women that they can be anything they want to be, and then proceed to tell them what products they must buy and how they must look to get there. Empowerment? Hardly, unless that's a new marketing "buzzword". She leans a little heavily on the "here's what you should be scared ****less of right now" when she does her little 20/20-style segments, as well. It's a good sign that feminism is dead, to have someone shilling products in it's name so crassly. But what do I know, I'm one of the evil male monsters every other show is about. You know we all suck, right?

Oprah doesn't say "You must buy/need this", She simply says "I love this" and american women decide for themselves.
$5 bucks says Bra sales go through the roof this weekend.

And yes, we know you all suck!

It's also sort of hard to take any of her advice seriously. She spends half of her time telling married people and parents how to live their lives. Meanwhile she has never been married nor does she have any kids.

Well, just because you've never been married or had kids doesn't mean you don't know right from wrong or have good instincts. Look at all the parents on Dr Phil or Nanny 911- they've been married AND have kids and still don't have a clue as to what to do.

SOmetimes I find oprah's commercialism kind of crass, like promoting cars, etc. ANd dumb interviews with dumb celebrities. BUt I love the makeover shows!

Oprah doesn't tell people what to do, she brings on an expert and they tell these people what to do.
And most people with or without kids can distinguish right from wrong or have basic common sense.
Its just some parents/people can't, you need to look at things from outside the situation(sp)

Actually, the majority of "noted" designers of women's clothing ARE men. More or less. But, it is true that the "average" guy has more of an interest in UNdressing women. At least, that's what I've heard.

All women look better with make-up, but some look good enough to get by without it, or just don't care that they look like crap.

I believe your last comment sould be aimed at Ranger, he started this thread.

Really? How do you get to know an ugly women is beautiful on the inside? Most guys won't even acknowledge an ugly women, let alone get to know one. So your saying a woman with no make-up, uneven skin tone, bags under her eyes, and down right butt-ugly has a chance?
I'm sorry, but I've heard that lie before.

That's when the second axiom comes into play.

Phear the power of 0pRaH.

Remember what happened to the beef market when she dropped the comment that she was afraid to eat a hamburger.

Well, obviously cycling isn't part of her regimen. I remember the show with Lance and she was riding a bike with him and she could barely stay upright! And she was on a mountain bike. I think she rides a stationary bike but probably hasn't been on a real bike since she was a kid.
