ENRON:The smartest guys in the room

okay today was so crappy in Seattle that I didn't cycle and went to the movies and saw ENRON:the smartest guys in the room. You have to see this. By the middle of the movie I was
so angry I was in disbelief. The most poignant part of the movie, for me, was a 50+ PGE
(Portland Gas and Electric) lineman who had been investing in his 401k all of his working career, PGE got bought out by Enron and now his 401k was worth $12.00.....you know we have all this bs about religion, abortion, gay marriage, Red states vs. Blue states, but I am increasingly believing it is just a smoke screen to put us at each other throats while we are systematicaly stripped of all our workers and consumers rights.
There are days that I believe we are no longer a Republic, just a bunch of corporations

I heard it was a great movie. I think Ebert and Roper said it was one of the best movies of the year.

We are the United States of Corporate America already. No one's willing to admit it, that's all.

Sometimes I think we should just move into full-on cyberpunk mode where the corporations rule the world openly or at least all but the dimmest realize that to be the case. We're getting there, but some governments, and their citizens, are still in denial.

That is exactly how I feel. When I was a kid, I was a big fan of Robocop. Now that I live in the EXACT SAME world he inhabited, it ain't so dang funny... We don't have to bend over, though, we can fight.

Every month when I open my electric bill I think of how enron screwed the state of california.. Before the electricity crisis a few years back electricity was regulated and my bill was a constant 60-70 a month..

Then enron comes in and sells them the idea that with competition you can get energy for less money, the state buys the idea and then the screwing of california begins.

My energy bill is now between 120-140 a month for the same amount of electricity used..

ENRON still owns Portland General Electric. Some other sleazy Texans (Texas Pacific Group) tried to buy PGE last year, but after several unflattering revelations about their predatory business practices, the Oregon public utility commission rejected their offer. The City of Portland is still trying to figure out how they can buy PGE from ENRON and make it a true public utility.

Beautifully crafted distractions.

It seems like the only person who tries to bring attention to this is Nadar, and no ever seems to listen.
