Birds. Poop. Trigger?
So over the course of my commute, I see many interesting things. Some make me go, "ahhhh" or even "awwwwww". Others make me go, "oooOOOhHHHH!" Still others, make me go, "hmmmmm?!???!?". I'd say I have more "hmmmm??!?!?!?" moments than anything else.
Anyway, to the point. Have you ever noticed how a bird you startle while riding has a tendency to take a crap at the instant it lifts off from the ground? Is this some sort of evolutionary phenomenon, whereby the brain isn't tasked to control bowel movements, as BM's are triggered by the bird's instinctual motive to take flight when it senses danger?
and yeah, I'm serious. I thought it more interesting to discuss than to google.
Expulsion of particulate matter = thrust. Basic propulsion.
I seem to remember something about birds not having anything to hold the poop in - useless weight. So as they move up from the ground, I'd imagine that inertia keeps the poop from coming along...
They're hoping to hit your head on the way down.
