Has anyone actually gotten a rebate off something?

I keep buying stuff with all these rebates that could supposedly make it a really good deal but then i realize i have to find time to fill out the form, find and attach the reciept and mail it, and i just never get around to doing it. which blows becuase then the rebate expires and i have ended up paying 40 bucks for one little speaker for my mp3 player.

I got a $50 rebate for my mp3 player a few years ago. Plus, got a pretty good rebate on something to do with my DSL(when I had that 3-4 years ago). I have forgotten to fill out the forms/lost them more than I've gotten the rebate, tho.

Rebates very rarely work for me, so I try not to buy anything unless it's a fairly good deal before rebates.

I've had some companys insist they sent off the rebate check, only to have it never arrive. BS'ers.

Yes, I get the rebates.

Just be sure you save the receipt...make a copy and send the original.

I get the rebates about 3/4 of the time.

My dad is much better about it, as far as I know, he's gotten all the rebates on stuff hes bought.

I hate stupid rebates but I got back both the ones I've done over the years. It just took a lot longer than they say on the forms to actually get them back.

Rip off city

If there is a rebate attached to anything I never buy it. Takes weeks sometimes months to get the money.

I get the rebates back from about 70% of the stuff I buy at BestBuy, when I call them about it they say it's out of their hands cause it's the product manufacturer that does it, and dealing with companies like Samsung in Korea is just not fun so I don't even bother

Worth the effort? You tell me. What effort is involved in filling out a five line address card and posting it? So what if it takes a month or two to show up, usually by the time it does I've forgotten about it and it's 'pennies from heaven' . Most rebate no shows are from non-compliance or illegibility, so whos to blame here? And if you don't get it... the worst you're out is 37 cents and an envelope. BFD.

I've always received rebates when I send them in. Yes, I have to remember to do it. The easiest way is to fill out the form as soon as you get home with the item. LIke Stacey said, it doesn't take that much time to fill out a form and mail it off. As for the check taking "weeks or months" to arrive, almost every rebate form I've seen clearly states that it takes 6 to 8 weeks for the check to arrive.

I received nearly $400.00 total in rebates on my computer and digital camera. From Best Buy, emachines, Hewlett Packard, and Olympus.

The last thing I can think of is a memory card for my camera that had a $15 rebate. I actually just sent in a rebate form for another memory card. I wouldn't have bothered, however, had it not already been a good deal.

Personally, I find the mail-in-rebates really distasteful because I hear stories pretty frequently from people who never get their money back. Plus, I'd rather just get the money back right away. Of course, the companies are banking on you not sending in the rebate form, which is why they sell it that way instead of just lowering the price.

I have gotten every rebate I sent for. Be it a dollar on furnace filters, to 7.50 on gallons of paint.
I fill it out and mail it in, and in anywhere from 4-10 weeks, a nice suprise in the mailbox
The rebates from my computer and such arrived within 6 weeks. It takes very little time to fill out the form, and most stores give you a rebate receipt copy to mail in.

Yeah, I used rebates. But I got burned by the idiots at Best Buy the last time I was supposed to get one. It was supposed to give me an additional 100 bucks off, but then they switched the rebate offers, so all I got was some stupid updated software for something I already had. After that, I decided no more rebates. They are a pain to deal with and difficult to track. It's not worth the hassle.

$100 on each of my two Dell computers

Various rebates off of other equipment.

I make it easy. Have pre-done labels, etc., so I just paste on and mail away.

I have my own copier, and a little special place between the computer and the monitor where I keep them for easy follow up. I use standard pre-printed mailing labels, the same ones I use for return addresses on my bills.

Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, and Staples seem to specialize at generating complaints about their rebate programs.

Almost forgot...if it's worth complaining about, chances are Maddox has eviscerated it in HTML. Somehow he hasn't picked up on Merton's rant about the price of college ruled paper yet...

I use rebates all the time. They all come. Sometimes VERY slow but they come. They make it a pain in the arse so you don't send them in.
