Starting Over.

Iíve spent the last five years as an enlisted sailor in the US navy. In one year from today, I get my honorable discharge Iíll be 30. While in the Navy I spent my first 3 Ĺ years working on high-tec surface to air radars including 15 months of school. The last year and some change Iíve been a LAN administrator, Sat comm operator including 3 months of school. The only certificates I have are A+, and fiber installer. I need 6 more credits to get an AA degree in liberal arts. I plan to move to Portland, OR as soon as I get out (currently in BF Maryland). I've never even been to Portland but plan to visit once before the move. ďWhy PortlandĒ you ask? I'm looking for something new and urbanish. I have 15K in the bank. One car payment ($400 a month), credit cards are all paid off, and no real debt. Married with no kids. Iíll be the main income. I plan to apply for mostly federal government jobs but would take most anything. Am I crazy? Anyone else been through anything like this? I couldnít sleep thinking about it so here I am posting it, sorry.

My friend only had an EMT license, his truck and $2000 when he moved to SD. He lived in some ratty old shack for about 3 years until he saved/invested enough to buy a small house.

Of coursem he didn't have a wife and kids to provide for, but he was still in a somewhat difficult/bad situation.

Good luck on the move and new life! Hopefully everything works out.

edit: lol I wroted "incested" instead of "invested". Good thing I caught it before anyone saw that.

That's great! Good luck!

I wish I had more money saved up to do it myself...I "really" want to get to Seattle area but don't have enough money that I can do it without having something lined up first.

Try FLIR. A friend of mine used to work there and it sounded like a good company that might have opportunities for someone with your background as a tech.
