Editing Windows start menu

Is there anyway I can consolidate my windows start menu? I want to group a bunch of things on the menu into one grouping but I don't know how to do it.

Could you give a little bit more detail?

For example, do you plan to have your games like:

Start- Programs- Games-
Counter-Strike
Half-Life
Tribes
Guild Wars
Hearts
Solitaire
etc.

Then
Start- Programs- Messengers
AOL IM
ICQ
MSN
Yahoo

instead of each of them having their seperate folder?

Yes, group my games in one section, then school folders, then messengers. You hit the nail on the head.

If you have Windows 2000 or XP:

1. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer to get to your C Drive.
2. Go here: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
3. To edit some more, go here: C:\Documents and Settings\<your login name>\Start Menu\Programs

You can create new folders, delete folders, move items around, etc.

Even easier, just right click on the start button and select Explore All users (or Open All users, depending on which one you're more comfortable with)

You can create subfolders under Programs to consolidate your like programs like games, utilities, etc. Just create the folder and name it to whatever, then just drag the programs into it.

Right click on startmenu and click "explore all users". This will bring up the appropriate area in regular old windows explorer which make up your start menu.

However, this is the "all users" area. Some programs may have installed into the menu under "your" (or another if there are any) user Id area. So at the same level as the "all users" folder, there may be other users folders (like "KingTermite" for example).

I prefer to just have everything in "all users" (especially since I'm typically the only one who uses my computer). So I move anything in my user id menu folders into the "all users" menu folders.
