Stupid Computer Question My turn

I'm working on a older Gateway PII system with a 3COM NIC. From the NIC, there is a three conductor (like a sound card or CD-ROM Audio cable) cable running to the MB. I can't make out any of the markings on the MB due to eyesight limitations. What is this cable for? I've never see this on a NIC before. TIA

Photos do wonders, but I imagine if it looks like a cd-rom audio cable it very well could be for that specific purpose. Is it an ethernet? or phone modem? any model # on the card?

Digital Audio Cable on a NIC? That does sound kinda goofy...never seen that myself.

Yeah....a picture would be great.

Aaaah....that sounds like a viable reason.

Thanks all. Since I don't need Wake On LAN, and I didn't have the driver for this, I pulled the card and replaced it with a RealTec. Everything seems to be working just great.

Thanks again!
