"Thumb's down" (sad panda)

Well, I suck....

One bad meat cleaver swing, and I nearly cut the tip of my thumb off tonight....just got back from the ER

Fortunately it was stitchable, so my thumb will be somewhat normal...Only thing that sucks is I won't be riding very much for a month or two (can't shift plus pain meds mimght not play well)...this freaking sucks!

On the bright side...Vicodin isn't half bad...and the Doctor who stitched me up was rather cute, and kept me distracted through 90% of it.

For those who care about gore...I sliced it at about a -40 degree angle, 75% of the way through...and almost clear through the bone....as well as through the nail of course....

One mroe day I was glad about boy scout training...I knew what to do to minimize bleeding and get most of the first aid stuff done.

Well, wish me luck on my one or two month uni-thumbed adventures!

*OUch*

That does suck about the riding. Sorry man!

I've been there before...I nearly cut my thumb off once when I was about 8. I remember something about elevation and bleeding....they made me keep my hand in a sling for about 6 weeks to keep it elevated.

Yep, elevate the wound above heart level, and apply pressure to the wound to minimize bleeding. Also helps to wash it thoroughly with cold water before applying pressure.

...well time to get ready and get my pills...I should have hit CVS last night...oh well.

Whoa. Nasty flashback to restaurant days. 5 am opening on three hours' sleep after a previous night shift. Swiss cheese. Rotary slicer with a broken gimpy handle. The consciousness altering moment. Opening the offical first aid kit to find a first aid book, Q-tips, and a pen. Light-headedness and tunnel vision. Doctor saying, "Wow, this is… wow, this is deep!" Big gnarly Frankenstein stitches (actually, those were pretty cool).

Ooh, I'm all shuddery.

I'm missing part of my left index finger due to a table saw incedent. You'll get used to it.

Oh yeah...I'm a Vicodon man myself.

Yeah, I'm off work today so I can adapt to the meds and allow my thumb the 24 hour period to start healing up.

The part that made me tear up in pain was during stitching, the surgeon had to run the needle through my nail...and the problem with me is anesthesia does not last long at all...and it wore off in themiddle of that

....my god that hurt....amazingly I didn't flich....for considering myself such a wuss when it comes to pain, I sure do surprise myself sometimes.
