What free SPYWARE program should I get?

I know there are a few, i'm not sure which ones to trust. What do you all have, and what could you recommend for me to use? I currently have 'Ad-Aware', but I know there are others and want to try them out.

thankyou!

I use AdAware and spybot-S&D. What one doesn't pick up the other certainly will.

I used to have Spybot but for some reason I got rid of it...is it free or just a free trial?

Use both. Not any one program gets it all! The both seem to have regular updates, just make sure you are running the current version. Also visit trend.com and run their spyware a/v routine on your puter. I'm also using Avast a/v program free and it auto updates!

Spybot S&D, Ad-aware, use Firefox as your browser, and run CCleaner to clean up registry leftovers whenever you clean out your recyclebin.

Most definantly Spybot. I have been using just that, with great luck. Perhaps I will run ad aware as an insurace, but my system performs well now.

I run McAfee;s Firewall /AV /Spyware with Ad Aware and Spybot. They all find different things!! But between the three of them they do a good job.

I like Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. I have also used SpyWare Doctor...it is pretty good, too.

I strayed to a PC once. Both SpyBot and Ad-aware were okay, but for the most part they couldn't remove spyware that installed directly to the registry.

Anyone using the Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta? It's free at the Microsoft site, or by googling. I'm currently using it, but haven't compared it to Spybot or Adaware yet.

Does Spybot still catch a lot even with Microsoft Anti-Spyware running?

I'm asked this question (the original topic question) so often at work, that I wrote up something that gathers together my thoughts on it and links to the software I recommend. Now, whenever someone asks, I just send them the link to my site.

I approach this from the angle that software should be free, so there may be better stuff out there. But, I really doubt it.

http://www.nicomachus.net/weblog/archives/000057.html

And, yes. Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Blaster are all still useful even with Micro$oft's spyware filters running.

We don't get them in Mac land... YET. We (Mac users) have just not yet drawn the ire of the hackers and programmers who write the spyware. As soon as we achieve a larger share of the software market, we'll be a target. Any Mac user who does not use anti-virus software is just asking for it. It's all a matter of time.
