Aw, I just broke a tooth...

And right in the front, too. Had a root canal on it years ago (back in my get drunk and fight days), so at least it doesn't hurt. And I gotta wait til the first of the year to get it fixed, 'cause I used up all my dental coverage for the year already. This sucks...

I'm suprised that I haven't yet. I have been in the habit of opening beer bottles with my teeth (twist offs) recently. I guess that would just ruin my enamel, though...

Believe it or not, I broke it while eating spaghetti for breakfast. How, you might ask, do you bust a tooth with cooked spaghetti? Well, in my zest, I banged my lower front teeth into my upper front teeth, and the lowers won. Why was I eating spaghetti for breakfast, you might also ask? That I can't explain...

Yeah, hunger is a big part of it. The main reason is that I work the night shift, so your breakfast time is my dinner time. Not that I eat breakfast in the evening, mind you.

My family used to do that when I was a kid. What's got my undies in a bunch is that Thursday is take the wife and kid out to TGI-Friday's to eat night (doesn't make sense, but I'm off every Thursday, so it works). My usual is Buffalo wings and baby back ribs. I don't see it happening in my current condition. Looks like soup and beer for me...

Good thing you didn't get your tongue caught in the middle of that. I hate that

I have a similar condition, my front tooth broke while eating my mother-in-law's taco.

Don't be afraid to be very picky with the dentist regarding getting the right color on your new "tooth." Mine is off and it drives me nuts every time I see my own picture (especially wedding pictures). I'm considering having a crown done but don't really want to go into an invasive procedure for something that is only cosmetic.

My wife is telling me to get porcelain veneers for my "two front teeth". Anybody have an idea of the cost, ballpark? I don't know if my dental insurance will cover much, if any, of the procedure, since it is cosmetic.

His mother-in-law planted a rock in that taco. Gotta love those in-laws

Is your mother-in-law a dentist, by any chance? Or does she just make really lousy tacos?

I always say it that way just because it sounds funnier and invites banter. M-I-L was not a dentist, but a Marine. Her tacos were fine and were not a factor in breaking my tooth, it had been previously damaged and repaired, and the time had come for it to break more severely. It would not have mattered much what I was eating at the time. I have a pretty much permanent repair now, I just don't like how it looks.

Veneers (I think) are pretty expensive and wouldn't be warranted if the rest of your teeth look fine. If you'd be happy with the broken tooth matching the normal tooth, I think a crown would be a good choice, and would be likely to be covered by your insurance.
