My baby....the first of my two boys got out tonight.
I generally let them out in the back yard now and then to run a little and "do their business" (not to mention a trip to the dog park nearly every night). There is only one gate to my back yard, it's on one side of the house. I never use or open it except when I'm going through myself (and that's probably only when I mow the lawn).
After being out for a while I opened the back door and Solomon came back in. Ammo did not.....I didn't see him, but didn't think anything of it as it was dark. Sometimes he likes to stay out longer, so I just closed the door and waited another 10 minutes. I called him again and he still didn't come. It was starting to drizzle outside, so I thought I better get him in.
After more unsuccessful calls, I go outside and look around the side (by the gate) which is where they like to lay down in the dirt sometimes. I don't see him, but I do see the gate WIDE OPEN. Immediate adrenaline rush as I'm picturing my baby wandering and sniffing all the way up to the main road (Drew St.) and imagining him hit by an oncoming Hum-V or something.
Ok, back inside throw on more clothes and jump in the car. I drive up and down all the immiate nieghborhood roads with no luck. It's getting cold and drizzling a little harder now, so I run back inside and put on my jacket (still in shorts). I start walking around; I walk into the nieghbor's back yard and get soaked by a sprinkler. It's starting to rain lightly now. I stop back and grab my umbrella.
Now I start walking up and down all these roads calling him, flashing a flash light down between every house, getting more frantic everytime my steps take me back up near Drew St. After about an hour, I'm soaking wet, dirty, cold and nervous for my baby. I intend to change my clothes and get right back outside to look for him.
As I near the house, I see something (about Ammo sized) dart between trees between my neighbor's yard and mine and disappear back in through the gate (which I left open in case he came back and wanted to go to back yard). I call him but he doesn't come. I get to the back and he's waiting by the back door with this innocent look as if he had been there the whole time. He was trying to avoid me seeing him (darting through trees because he thought he was in trouble most likely).
As you can guess, I didn't care about him leaving was just hugging him thankful that he was back and ok. I brought him in and grabbed a towel to dry him off and he's lying on floor beside me now.
What a nervous hour I just went through!!! Whew and I glad its over and OK now.
