I can think of better ways to make fun of straight edgers than this.

That Goo Goo Dolls tattoo is hilarious. I love tattoos that lack correct spelling or grammar. It's also just a bad tattoo in terms of technique.

Also, Earth Crisis dude a couple posts up is actually not a dude, and from somewhere in Europe. Utterly hilarious. I know a few people who've seen her around shows in Italy and soforth. Also, as I already stated, SLC and anything ever associated with it (Earth Crisis, Vegan Reich, Hate Edge, etc) is a joke.

ahahah YOUR ALIVE.

I love the kids I knew who were all into straight edge, got tattoos, and became alkies. Started smoking cigarettes. sleeping around.

I actually used to play in a hardcore band started by 2 kids: one who was a vegetarian (parents were hippies) and straight edge, and another who had pretty awesome vocals and became straight edge to be trendy (in other words, he still considered himself straight edge, even tho he drank and didn't have his sharpie X's on ). Next thing you know, they meet up with a couple of GI's: One from SLC and super sxe, another from NC, wannabe sxe marlboro smoker. Eventually, I lost interest in the band (sausage fest ), and I'd see them play a few gigs with the singer preaching sxe before every set, drawn up X's... then hide in his car to smoke a marb after they were done.

With my experience with those (and many other) kids, I could conclude that the whole movement was a joke to begin with (no disrespect to ian mckaye, I love his music), but I won't.

enough of the bashing already. Let's turn it on our computers before anybody else types out something ignorant and stupid!

I just wanted to post again to say I wasn't trying to make anyone mad, especially Gonesh. I've followed his posts for a long time, and he's straight up and I respect him, we just have different diet philosophies. I'm not trying to hate on anyone, I've got tattoos, piercings, I don't put anything in my body except a few beers now and again, and I steer clear of meat MOST of the time. Do whatever works for you, unless you're one of those food-tubes that stops at the Golden Arches at least once a day, then you need to be shot in the face.

That's a girl?! Whoa. I also noticed the "YOUR" misspelling, kinda suck for that person to live with that for eternity. I guess adding an apostrophe and an "e" would cost extra..., or make the tat run too long.

Dude, it's all good, no disrespect intended from my end either. Dialog like this is necessary... plus noone's ever going to agree with everyone, or this whole world would turn into some fantasy-like pink fluffy care bear land. And we certainly don't want that.

This was a big trend last year in my area. It was funny to see people who'd given me **** for being Straight Edge in the previous five years becoming ultra-militant and trying to befriend me. All the drunk punk kids ditched their bondage pants and mohawks for number twos and Nike Dunks. One of them got a Stay Gold chestpiece with a bunch of X's after only about a year and a half of being Straight Edge. I think it'd be cool without the X's (Stay Gold was a sweet band), but either way it's incredibly likely he'll move onto the next trend when it comes along and regret that along with his Give Up the Ghost ink.

In regards to Ian MacKaye, he didn't regard Straight Edge as a movement so much as a personal belief. Arguably, it was the late-80s NY scene that created the whole Youth Crew movement, thus leading to Straight Edge being viewed as some type of social reform. As cliché and trite as Youth Crew became, I think a lot of good things came from it (positive crews, Gorilla Biscuits, gang vocals, Turning Point, mesh shorts, Revelation Records, etc). Lots of bad stuff as well, but that didn't come until later. I think things have gotten a lot worse in recent years, with FSU causing so many problems, and a general sense of fear toward dealing with violence and ignorance (one in the same) within the scene. Of course, a lot of this has nothing to do with Straight Edge, and more to do with jock linebacker kids (most of which aren't SXE to begin with) getting into Mosh Metal and getting a bunch of their bros to "back them up" (attack someone many-against-one) against anyone who "disrespects their crew" (aka has an ounce of intelligence). Thankfully I've never had anything to do with any of that, despite Detroit having a pretty big toughguy scene.

01001011... is my favourite album of all time, any genre. The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, the CaP'n Jazz LP, and Jawbreaker's Bivouac and Twenty-Four Hour Revenge Therapy come pretty close, but the Portraits of Past LP is such a solid, revolutionary record, which is something very hard to accomplish in post-80s Hardcore, especially on the level that LP did. Woefully underrated band, and there are still dozens upon dozens of kids trying to cop that sound today that don't even approach what that record accomplished.

It's anything but popular to avoid drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and casual sex. Also, Straight Edge is a lot more than that; definitely not so simple.

SXE = Straight Edge = Abstain from alcohol, drugs, tobacco, casual sex. Specific reasons for doing so, and ties to the Hardcore Punk scene differentiate Straight Edge from simply being drug/alcohol/etc free.

Alkie = Alcoholic.

Pinkie = Pinko = derogatory term for Communists/Marxists/Socialists.

I don't know who annoys me more, preachy edgers or the people that like to pick fights with 'em.

Settle down, all of you, before I turn this car around.
