Thanks for sharing. I understand they use animal products in Bacitracin and Neosporin. Just thought I'd throw that out...

pigmode: yes they do but disregarding that neither of those comes anywhere near my body, as they are useless. The only bummer is that Technicare, an anti microbial(kills everything except Prion Virii pretty much), isn't Vegan. But veganism is all one of those how far you take it things and when it comes to my personal safety, I compromise.

Right on. I was vegitarian for 7 years, and have known people who get sick at the smell of meat cooking. I'll return to it in due time.

Same with my old friends, they were raised vegan. They were completely unprepared for the smell of burnt flesh. As for me, I got started through a relationship. When I moved to the Big Island and shared a house, it became more convenient to go back. Didn't you just run into a car recently?

Isn't this just a body mod? What makes it a "Vegan" body mod? You hacked up your leg. I could hack up my leg in the exact same way and call it an "Omnivore" body mod, too. WTF?

I thought vegans had more respect for living things than to hack them up with sharp objects. Silly me.

The body, my friend, spends most of its existence as dust and dirt.

The disgust in the above posts is an excellent example of cultural taboos at work. We don't know WHY it is disgusting to see cut flesh, even superficial wounds like the body mod. There is no logical reason to be disgusted by it. Preservation of life is one thing, but that is hardly applicable in this case. Rather, it is a cultural thing.

Ever considered herbal salves? I have an inkling they wouldn't fare well with your VVV body mod, since they seem to be on the same order as standard tattoo salves.

As population increases misfits band together to find comfort with others who have the same symptoms. Rationalizing that existence as a culture is natural, but "cult" is more accurate.

The OP needs help, this type of attention seeking behavior and self mutilation is not healthy......then again, I don't really care.

Why self mutilate? I have heard that it is an outward expression of inner pain and frustration, and a cry for attention. It doesn't make you look tough, and it sure is no way to get respect. As a teacher, I would send you to a psychiatrist so fast that the blood wouldn't have time to dry. But, do what you want, what the hell do I care?

Body modification has been around since humans have existed, so I do not think it has much to do with population increase, or anything to do with symptons and cults. I wouldn't even call it a culture in of itself, but aspects of certain cultures. Different cultures have different notions of body modification, different notions of beauty, different notions of family, discipline, freedom, or anything else you could consider.

I do not know if the above posters use of the term self mutilate is intentional, but I suspect not. Self mutilation is significantly different than body modification. As correctly pointed out, self mutilation is usually an attempt at venting inner pain. Body modification is historically used to celebrate some turning point in life. Many people, for instance, get tattoos to commemorate an event or note the passage of time. Certain societies will tattoo individuals upon reaching adult hood, or modify the body in some other way.

In a lot of ways, one can relate body modification (at least tattoos and the like) to style of dress. Certain people dress certain ways, for whatever reasons. Certain people find body modification useful for celebration, just like others use more convential meens like Communion, Marriage, Funerals, etc. Generally, as a collective and now global society, it does not behoove us to shun those who dress or look different, or display different rituals. In fact, a lot of BAD things happen when we go down that road...

No, neither activity implies the other. However, veganism is more than a diet. It is a lifestyle that eschews, as far as possible, animal products in daily use with the idea that this minimizes animal exploitation. And that is about all veganism is, though most follows tend to be fairly compassionate toward other forms of life.

I can only guess, but I suspect that the OP's of the word VEGAN body modification refers explicitly to the CONTENT of the body modification rather than the nature of the body modification itself.

I am unsure whether most of the posts in this thread are simply trollbait or if people genuinely are confused about body modification and veganism. If they were trolls, I apologize to everyone else for biting. However, there seems to be this belief that vegans are in some "others" subset of humanity, at least in this forum.

Anybody that mutilates their body in a way as that gets classified as being near "subhuman". The mentality of people who perform such body mutilations - I do not know. I do know, however t hat it has strengthened my believe that Vegans are weirder then the weird of us

I don't think the OP was trolling, per se, but surely he knew he might get some flak for his post. I don't think anyone else was trolling, either, for that matter, just expressing thier opinions.

I have a HUGE "A" carved into my arm done in a state of concious unconciousness...
Now that I am a laid back, father and boring old Starbuck slurping, psuedo-intellectual
