If nothing "new" is working for you, then I'd suggest going back and trying things a bit older and/or being openminded and trying "genres" that are outside of your normal listening tastes.

Here are some artists I really like....particular some that are not "mainstream"....check them out.

October Project
Cowboy Junkies
Camera Obscura
Neko Case
Rachel Yamagata
The SuperJesus
Skindive

The weirdest song i've listened to is Intergalatic by the Beastie Boys. Weird, but very cool to listen to. Try it.

try classic rock... (a lot of songs you hear on commercials are classic rock songs, by the way)... or metal... try Trans-Siberian Orchestra. (If you've seen the guy from Ohio who is a computer engineer and synced is christmas lights to a song -recent-, then the song is Wizards in Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra...)

Try www.pandora.com
You type in your favorite artists, and it offers up similar artists.

Best part: it's free.

emo = An "Emotional"

Those depressed looking zombies (18 to 20) wearing black with strange piercings. That dude who carved his leg is one, and like the others were straight edge before the were voted off the island. Its another fringe group of misfits.

Totally not a plug, I promise, but pandora is pretty neat. You feed it songs and bands you like and it plays more bands and songs you might like. Of course, if you like one song by ******* it'll think you like country music, but other than that I haven't noticed any other brain damage. I've also heard last.fm is similar in concept, but I haven't played with it.

I'm listening to Sweetback (Sade's band -- produced a few solo albums) and they have some cool, moody and alternative stuff.

Not all of this is funny but it's what's in my wall of lp's:

How about Gary Numan and Tubeway Army? Echo and the Bunnymen? Todd Rundgren? Frank Zappa's "Joe's Garage" should get you laughing. Wanda Jackson, The Sonics, Thee Headcoats, Thee Headcoatees, April March(seriously funny stuff here), Phranc(check out Ouijee, the rodeo parakeet)

A-bones, Southern Culture on the Skids, L7, Sinister Six, The Breeders, Yaz, Big Sandy and the Fly-rite trio, Planet Rockers, Stray Cats, The Who, David Bowie, Bobby Fuller, Phantom Surfers, The Mummies, David Byrne, Psychedelic Furs, Talking Heads, Lightnin' Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Thelonius Monk, Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Rolling Stones, U2, Phoebe Snow, Pink Floyd, The Mortals, Gravel, The Cynics, Bodeco, Swingin' Neckbreakers, Men At Work, Allman Brothers, ABC, Modern English, Trio, Fun Boy Three, Dead Kennedys, Dead Can Dance.....................plenty more but my fingers are tired now.

See if you can find an indie album called "Shaftman" funny, raunchy, funny
