KT gets a new ride!

Some of you saw my thread over in the Road Cycling forum....I've been finally ready to move up to a road bike. After MUCH test rides on nearly every brand around, I finally decided to go with a touring road bike. I may get something more performance oriented later, but this will suit for now.

Not to menion I got a great deal because its sat in the store all year. Normally $1100, I got it for $800.

That's great KT, beautiful bike at a fantastic price. You'll get many happy miles on that one, good choice!!! Isn't Santa just the best guy ever? Take the rack off and see how sporty it looks.

It'll sure be a change (upgrade) from the comfort bike (Trek Navigator 300) I have been riding for the last two years. I was just starting be limited by the bike itself, so I needed to move up.

I had been fidgeting about it.....I have to thank Siu Blue Wind for giving the final "push" to go out there and do it. Thanks sis!

I'm debating about the rack......it's there for stury carrying of things, but I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon, so I just may take it off.

I'm gonna try to take it for a nice ride tomorrow morning since my family get together isn't until 5pm. A friend suggest I should (at least for a short time) put my larger Navigator seat on it since I'm more used to that. However, a guy at my LBS suggested that a larger seat would be uncomfortable in that riding position. What do you all think? Should I use that larger seat for a while, or just go with the stock seat that's on there from day one (tomorrow)?

I'd tend to agree with the LBS guy, keep the touring saddle. It may take a couple weeks, but you will get use to the saddle and be more comfortable on the smaller one. It takes me 100 to 200 mile to break in my body to a new saddle, then it is like a comfy easy chair!! Enjoy the ride tomorrow.

Isn't the off-season a great time to get a bike (although, I can't imagine there's much of an off season in Tampa)? A guy at my school got his Cannondale R700 in season and paid almost $1300, I got mine in October and paid $950.

Enjoy your new ride.

Not much of an off-season here, correct. It's about 70F out today, I'd guess. Even when we are at our coldest....we are probably hitting 50s in daytime.

kt, great decision--touring bike will be a great transition from your nav

that will be a plenty fast bike, but it won't be as squirrely as a race bike (handling will be less twitchy)

steel frame, durable wheelset--and I love that color

congrats

looking forward to your ride reports

btw, I would put at least 100 miles on that stock saddle--if it doesn't look like it will work, then try something like a Brooks B17--it's a wider saddle and very popular with the cycletour crowd

Christmas still sucks.....what does a new bike have to do with Christmas? I got a new bike because I wanted a new bike.....Christmas sucks and has nothing to do with it.

I like it, KT. The color rocks, reminds me of a Hershey bar. As far as the saddle, I have a similar one on my MTB, and its great.

Actually...color in picture is probably a little off because it was very overcast when I took pics. It's more of a maroon color.

Hey my brother! Congrats on the new ride, I'm glad you finally treated yourself. You work hard to get to your goal and you deserve it. You will probably be riding more now, and watch what happens! You will be happier because of this.

I would think that because of the new position (leaned forward) your Nav seat would be too wide and restrictive. I would keep the new seat on and ride for a bit. Then next time ride longer. Then longer. See how that works for you first before changing the seat. Remember that it will take time for your body to get used to the new shape and size of it.

The rack.... I think it looks cool but if you won't be using it, take it off....it would look even cooler.

But you know what would look even coooooler? A pic of my brother on his new ride....!
