Become sperm donor to pay for high-$ bike?

I want one of those fancy all-carbon everything bikes but have Campagnolo taste on a Simplex budget.

Word has it that donating one's "seed" pays some righteous bucks.

Anyone have the inside scoop?

I've heard you can get between $45-70 per, um, visit, but I don't know much more than that. That's as far as I got(heard from a co-worker), because he said that there might be a law passed(not sure if it's state or federal) where the donor could be liable for support if the mother(s) filed for it. I don't see how that could be legal, but it was just a rumor, anyway.

I think the donating thing is sort of morally wrong....

My darling 21 year old daughter, who is lazier than hell, is thinking of selling one of her eggs to some outfit in California. She likes the idea of a fast buck for no work. They will fly her out there, pay all her expenses, and give her $3,000 if the egg removal is successful. Evidently, it's a fairly simple process, and 75% of the removals are successful. I got the brochure, and I don't know what to think. The brochure is very professional, first rate, and slicker than snot. Evidently, this is a legit business that has been around since 1990. They thoroughly check out all donors life styles and family histories back three generations. They are going to have some trouble with my family -- my great grandfather was a deranged, cold blooded murderer. They have some donors who repeat the process often, and actually make a good living out of it -- they are the ones who have consistently produced pregancies resulting in superior high IQ super babies. This sounds like Orwellian 1984 to me. Personally, I think couples who can't conceive should go the adoption route, but what does an old fart know?

Well, if you don't have a lot in the brain department, you're probably not going to get a lot. So I would imagine some guys here would have to do a lot of spankin' to get enough spare change to even get close to that amount....

HAHAHA WHAT???

When you donate blood, it's theirs. They take it away and give it to someone who needs it. You don't get it back. It's not a transfusion or dialysis!

Actually, I enjoy giving blood and I recommend it to anyone that hasn't tried it. I've been unable to donate due to a malignant melanoma, but I've been cancer-free and will be able to donate again November 2006.

As for being a sperm doner, I took myself out of the pool years ago. Two eubi progeny is enough. I agree with trmcgeehan. Adoption is the way to go.

blood donations I'm all cool with.

Sperm, I do not.....I'm a bit apprehensive about putting my swimmers in unknown waters, so to say.

Well they won't take my blood due to my travels, and WTH I'm married, so daily, um 'service' is well within my, er limits, I do like the idea. A lot. Come to think of it, using my 'fun parts' as an ATM has considerable appeal. <splat!> <cha-ching!> As if I needed a reason.

I am not saying for you to do it or don’t, but there are a lot of couples that do benefit from such donations. To give you and idea, there is normally a six month waiting list just to see a doc for infertility and there are two large offices here in my town. However, I think only 20% of those are male factors. It is not for everybody and if you would have asked me before all of this, I would have said no way but it is strange how things change once you’re in a situation.

Don't get me started on that... if it weren't for cycling, I'd have to energy to donate at least 10-15 samples a day... Can you imagine an extra few hundred copies of me infesting the world?

My first thought when I saw this thread - there goes the gene pool.
