What does "NOS" stand for?

Best I could find was "not otherwise specified." I'm generally pretty good at discerning a word's or acronym's meaning from the context of a sentence, but this one has eluded me for too long. Even if it stands for "not otherwise specified," just what the hell does that mean?

"New old stock" in refered to a part
Basically a new part that has sat on someones shelf for years (i.e. a door handle for a 1958 vw)

"Nitrus Oxide" in reference to the gas
Used my the little import rice burners and muscle cars/race cars for increased performance (NO2)

Are you sure that Nitrous Oxide isn't N2O?

What is the sentance in which it is in context.

NOS, in the car sense actually is a brand name... Nitrous Oxide Systems, NOS for short. SInce then it has became a slang term for any nitrous system installed into a car, kind of how people refer to tissues as "kleenex" even if they aren't.

I'm not sure of it's chemical composition, but NOS is a brand name - Nitrous Oxide Systems.

As it relates to items for sale, NOS is generally understood to be new, old stock. 5 year old Shimano gear, still in the package, is NOS.

Oh, and for random trivia:

NOS only works on spark plug based (normal gasoline powered) engines....if you wish to gain a similar effect in a Diesel engine, you need Propane injection.

Just call it NAWZzz and don't worry about the chemical formula... (yes, nitrous-oxide is N2O).

Also works for rocket engine powered cars too.

Other possible interpretations:

Never On a Sunday -- the parts come from an old-fashioned place with blue laws.
New Orleans Style -- the parts are Cajun spicy hot.
or the worst possible...
Nice Old Scotsman -- describing the seller. Beware, laddie, beware!

N20 is nitrous oxide (the molecule has two nitrogens and one oxygen) that's laughing gas

NO2 is nitrogen dioxide (one nitrogen and two oxygen atoms) and is a gas that's considered deadly upon inhalation
