    Boycotting it.
It should be on New Year's Day when kids can watch it. Not finishing at 11:30pm on a school night.

    Sorry. I'm a traditionalist.

Wanna make a friendly wager, EJ? The winner buys the loser the winning team's t-shirt and the loser has to walk around the loser's campus sporting said T-shirt during lunch (when school resumes, of course)

I'm all for Texas. Had a gf who went there and she actually liked to watch the games and she got me hooked - pun intended (as in "hook 'em horns").

As for USC, they are a great team; should be an outstanding game.

Reggie Bush should stay in school; say he's gonna graduate first or something just so he won't be drafted by the Texans...

As an avid, rabid, etc., etc. etc. OU fan it hurts, physically hurts to root for Texas. But I have to. I don't want USC coming any closer to OU's 47 game winning streak record. And besides, since we didn't get to avenge USC beating us last year at least maybe Texas can.

No brainer on who I think will win, see my location. Like Soonerschwinn, I hate to admit it, since I normal side with Texas A&M. Last few football predictions came true... Houston Texans lost the last game of the season, and then they fired the coach. I still have the UT rose bowl hat my father in law gave me last year, yet I'm wearing my T A&M Galveston hat right now.

    Marty,

English vs Texan. It's like the ad says. "Texas, it's like a whole 'nother planet - er - I mean country".

My fiancee did her undergrad at USC, I'm a born/bred Texan and going to a UT system school (UTD). The bet is the loser buys the winner icecream at Cold Stone.

I'm rooting for Texas this time around.

I've 3 for 4 with Bowl Game picks so far, I lost the 4th on the Orange Bowl last night... I soooooo shouldn't have stayed up for that when I had to get up 3 hours after it finally ended.

Have a proposition on how to make the playoff tree for 119 Teams across divisions that are not of equal size? An NFL style Tournament wouldn't be worthwhile or fair either. In the NFL, with 32 teams playing for 16 weeks, each team has to face roughly half of the leauge before making it to the playoffs. If the NCAA I-A Football were to do that, they would be playing all year long!

Since the teams do not play the majority of the league, it's impossible to have each team with a similar strength of a schedule. Some of the better teams, USC, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, etc. have very big recruiting budgets. While, no, the students aren't paid to play, I've known several students that went on to play college ball that got certain "perks" for making the choice to play for a certain school ranging from the quite standard full ride scholarship to luxery cars (these are really the white elephant in the room, everyone in the NCAA knows it happens, but few blow whistles).

Anyways, because certain teams have higher budgets and better recruiting, you get a few powerhouse teams and many mediocre teams. To have a quality playoff, the mediocre teams should be seeded based on how they play against the other mediocre teams, and the powerhouses vs other powerhouses.

Unless they were to split the entire IA Division again, and just have the superb teams, they won't have a standard playoff post-season.

The Bowl Championship Series is still evolving into a method that allows the top teams to play in the bowl games while also allowing many more teams to participate in post-season games.

The Rose Bowl, this year, is the National Championship Game, as it was in 2002 and will be again in 2010. USC and Texas aren't the "best because someone says so". USC and Texas are both the only 12-0 teams in Division IA. Yes, last year there were 5 undefeated teams, and before that no undefeated teams. As far as the BCS Organizers are concerned, the Rose Bowl between Texas and USC is exactly what they wanted when they designed the formulae to have a championship game.

    Also, from wikipedia:
    "You Can't Blame the BCS"

Quote Originally Posted by ESPN - The Top 5 Reasons You Can't Blame... the Bowl Championship Series for the Lack of a Playoff in Division I-A College Football
    * 5. The U.S. Supreme Court's 1984 ruling that the colleges, not the NCAA, had the right to regulate their television contracts made it very difficult for the NCAA to create and enforce a playoff system.
    * 4. The BCS is an improvement over the previous system, with the conference tie-ins: The Rose Bowl taking the Big 10 and Pac-10 champions, the Big 8 winner going to the Orange, the SEC winner going to the Sugar and the Southwest Conference winner going to the Cotton. Suppose all those conference champions had been undefeated after the regular season. Michigan and USC, for example, could have settled things in the Rose Bowl, with the winner being 12-0. But what if Nebraska won the Orange, Alabama the Sugar, and Texas the Cotton? And what if Notre Dame, Penn State or Miami, all of whom were independents until the 1990s (Notre Dame still is in football), ended up being chosen by the Fiesta Bowl, which had no conference tie-ins in the 1980s and 1990s? There would have been as many as five teams that were 12-0, or 11-1, and only two polls to crown as many as two "National Champions." The BCS doesn't eliminate the possibility of split polls, or a third (or fourth) team being left out, but it's better than the tie-in system. (Or so ESPN argued.)
    * 3. The BCS, along with conference championship games between division winners, makes the regular season a virtual playoff: One loss, and you're probably out of the national title hunt; two, and you're definitely out. The problem with this is that a team could go into a conference title game, or its final regular-season game, ranked Number 1, lose it, still be ranked Number 2, or even Number 1, in the last poll due to computer figuring, and reach the National Championship Game without winning its Conference Championship. This happened in both 2001 and 2002:
o In 2001, Nebraska was unbeaten going into its final game at Colorado, which would decide the Big 12 North title. The Huskers left Boulder at the short end of a 62-36 pasting. Nonetheless, the computers put Nebraska in the Number 2 slot, behind Miami and barely ahead of two-loss Colorado and one-loss Oregon—putting them into the National Championship Game without even playing in their conference title game. The Huskers were convincingly beaten by the Hurricanes in the Rose Bowl.
o The following year, Oklahoma lost the Big 12 Championship Game but finished Number 1 in the computer rankings, and faced SEC Champion Louisiana State in the Sugar Bowl, leaving USC, also 11-1, out in the cold. LSU beat OU to claim the BCS National Championship. With the USC vs. Texas matchup scheduled to conclude the 2005 season, the occurrence of a team failing to win its Conference Championship and then reaching and winning the National Championship Game has never happened.
    * 2. The bowls. They mean a lot of money for the participating schools, and they give several schools, not just one, a chance to end their season with a victory.
    * 1. University presidents. They won't allow it, citing academics as a reason (despite the first half of January, when the playoff would take place, being part of an extended break between academic terms at most schools), but really wanting the bowl money (over $10 million for BCS bowls) for their schools.
