What's an efficiency apartment?

Quote:
A small, usually furnished apartment with a private bathroom and kitchenette.
So what's the difference between that and a regular one-bedroom apartment? Is it just smaller or what?

Generally an efficiency doens't have a "bedroom". It's just one really big room...bed is basically in living room.

Sounds good to me. My bed is in my "living room" right now anyway. All of my bike stuff is in the "bedroom." That way I only have to heat up one room. My damn electric bill was $114 last month in spite of all of that. I haven't turned the heat on for a couple days now.

Have you had your meter checked to see if someone else in your
building might have an appliance on your line ? Do you have electric heat ??
I lived in a tiny efficiency once and my electricity was about the same (114).
I turned off all the electricity by breaker when I went to work for a whole
month to see if it would make any difference and it didnt. After going back
and forth with the electric company and the landlord over whos responsiblilty
it was and getting nowhere, I just moved.

That reminds me of something. I was looking at studio apartments (a large one room apt.) for a while a few years ago and responded to an ad for one with a great price. It was nothing more than an efficiency! I basically live in an efficiency with 2 other guys (a triple bunk). We have plenty of room--of course I've got a great big office for my 700 books elsewhere though. I live in community on the base campus of our Non-Profit (about 8 buildings). We have a common kitchen area in the center of campus.
