Do you use google earth?

I use to have it about a year ago, but i lost it like the next day. I redownloaded it last night and forgot how cool it is!! The tilt thing is awesome!

Also, for those who dont know...it has a tool that lets you line-out a path and itll show you how many miles the path you drew is..

My night bike ride measures around 4.97-5.03 miles, so its really helpful. Even if you have dialup (like me) it wont take forever.

So do you have it?

I want to get it, but still only have Windows 98. Once I get a more up to date OS, I'll get it. It seems really cool.

I assume it does elevations (and changes there of), right?

I think my computer is to crappy to handle it. :( It can't even use google maps without freezing.

EDIT: How far can you zoom in on it?

Here is a screen shot of where I usually ride around....http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/viperfx10/Ge.jpg

You have AOL? sucks to be you..

Google maps/satellite photos dont work well for me on 56k so I never bothered with Google Earth

I haven't used it on my computer since its not powerful enough, but i've used it on my friends computer. Really really good, they just need to touch up on some of the areas where Australia is. Its not as clear as what the US has. I've heard about Google Earth Pro, you have to pay but is it better?

This is a pic of a house and driveway up the street. This is the closest I went before it gets to blurry..http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/viperfx10/ge1.jpg Its on tilt also.

This is an image I saved when i was using the program. The placed marked as "Bayswater" is exactly where i live and Lysterfield Lake is the place where they are holding the 2006 Commonwealth Games State Mountain Bike event.

i was thinking of getting that for bike related reasons. my freind has it and we found my house, and saw my old car in the driveway:)

freaky crap right there.

I use it all the time. It's great to use to plan out routes - by using the "measure" feature under "tools," I can get a fairly close distance approximation for a new route.

EJ123 01-21-06 10:24 PM

YES thats so cool.

ChAnMaN 01-21-06 11:27 PM

it doesnt seem like you have figured out how to turn on the 3D mode. Try clicking the terrain box and you will really have some fun.

EJ123 01-21-06 11:30 PM

Its clicked.?

My son had it fired up last night. It's pretty neat. His goal is to pin all the places we've visited.

No personal experiance with it, but a friend who paid for it reckoned it wasn;t worth it.

Google Earth and www.gmap-pedometer.com are pretty great tools for planning routes. I gmap'd a route that I'd never driven or ridden before and found a 14% grade. Glad I knew it was coming.

webist 01-24-06 04:46 PM

I really like being able to see the altitude data.

Taerom 01-24-06 05:01 PM

Google Earth is so much fun. I haven't even used most of the features of it yet, but I can entertain myself for hours with it. Too bad I live in a small town that isn't mapped in very good detail. I would love to see some detailed aerial photos of my area.
