would you like some cigarettes today?

At a time where we have all grown getting used to hearing "paper or plastic"? I was quite surprise to hear the clerk at my local grocery store ask every customers as they checked out "would you like some cigarettes today" you mean would I like cancer today? or would I like to suffer of slow amphasima death today? nah...thanks I replied.. "I think Ill wait till tomorrow" ( knowing tomorrow never really comes)
I stood there questionning the fact that not only did I wonder if they Id anyone first so they don't get charge with solicitating minors but I wonder if my Shaws valued customer card would give me some sort of discount on a new set of lungs.

I bet the manager is getting a kickback from cancer stick industries to make his employees ask customers if they want to buy cigarettes.

I can't believe at this day in age, the cancer stick industry is still alive and kicking. Too many stupid people who buy into the lifestyle of being an idiot.

As a teen I worked in a grocery store....and cashiers were required to ask that. Directive from the manager. It's kind of like when you buy something at a website like Amazon, and they give you a page of recommendations "if you want that...you may like these too". It's just a way to hope to get one more last little sale.

I'd strongly consider just leaving all my crap on the conveyer and saying something like, "no... and if you're going to push them, I don't think I want to spend my money here." And then just walk away. Let HER explain it to the manager.

What were you buying that made the cashier ask that? Beer and beef jerky?

Beer and cheetos, it's like manna from heaven except it leaves your fingers orange.

Imagine, your on your favorite trail, it's a little wet from the night before. You miss a board bridge and your front wheel jams into the mud. You fly over the handle bars and land hard but you're alright......Except you just swallowed your chaw. GaaaK!

You were buying beer, I don't know too many people that drink a 6 pack and refuse a smoke.

Ahem.

Well, there's self-abuse that feels good and doesn't hurt you or anyone else, and doesn't make you go blind or grow hair on your palms. Then there's self-abuse that's clearly destructive and ultimately may lead to a slow and painful premature death.

I'm a big fan of the former (I'd be lying too ), but am not at all into the latter. Understand?

Really?

Yeah, maybe 15 years ago...but I'd venture to say that a majority of adults I know drink, but a very small minority (even among drinkers) smokes.

Just sayin' is all.

I dunno how old you are, I'm 23 and most of my friends smoke while they drink, but, yeah, I don't know too many old that smoke....

On the way back from a trip, the guy ahead of me in line at an Ohio gas station had to present his drivers license to buy cigarettes. He didn't have a valid Ohio DL (they have to pull the card through the reader on the machine so the DL had to have a magnetic strip) so they wouldn't sell to him. Looking at him, I'd say he was in his 50's. He was just a little miffed to say the least.

I watched my Mother-in-law die from a lifetime of smoking....not a pretty way to go.

She didn't start this habit until after we had her fixed. I think she was trying to make a point about the "birth defects" thing.

yeah, that's kinda weird. i guess they ask it because the cigarettes are usually behind the counter or behind glass where the customer can't directly get to them (i.e. steal them).
