I have had enough of.....

After watching all of the hype and ridiculous nonsense regarding the upcoming Super Bowl I have decided that I can no longer stomach all of this thuggish trash talking. I really wish the league would put a gag order on these loudmouths who can't open said mouths wtihout coming off like a street thug. This hip-hop...ghetto...antisocial attitude in pro sports has got to stop. I am glad I don't have kids to have to explain all of this to. Can't any of these guys ever show respect to a fellow professional at the top of their game, or are they now bigger than the game? I grew up playing sports my entire life...from football to bowling to baseball to martial arts and in all of them the first thing I was taught was respect for my opponent. I coached all of my little league teams this way and all of my kids and some of their parents thanked me for it. The shame is that the media will denounce this type of behaviour but a minute later incite the very same thing. Oh well, perhaps I am silly and naive....more's the pity.

Sorry for the rant. maybe I am getting old (I am 44).

Cheers,

Brian

Sad, but very true! Many of the pro-athletes of today set a horrible example for today's kids who play sports. Tuesday nite, my son played a high school basketball game, and it was a disgusting display of poor manners sportsmanship on the part of the other team. Thankfully, our boys more class than that...along with a coach who will not put up with it. My son came home upset and furious because of the trash-talking and name-calling from the rival team. The other team WON THE GAME, and they were still carrying on. Pretty sad.

There's always been trash-talking in all sports. It helps motivate the athletes to compete. Right now, Hip-Hop culture dominates American popular culture. Back in the day (before the 1990s), other controversial styles motivated the athletes of those times.

I'm sure the hairstyles, clothes and trash talk was controversial in those times. Look at Muhammed Ali... he is the most famous trash-talker in history. I don't mind it at all... it adds to the suspense and drama of sports.

I think sports are a egotistic testosterone fest where people drive so low that they do things that they would not do. I want to have no part of it, and add to that the example... the drunk guys. I get to see it all, I delevier pizza. Beyond the tips I want nothing to do with the superbowl...

Boy do you have THIS right Mandy. I used to deliver pizzas in my younger days and Super Bowl Sunday was the absolute pits. The tips were pretty good though, especially if you got there right at halftime.

Cheers,

Brian

BTW I do love football...just not the lack of class that is so prevalent in it these days.

I have heard this angle used many times and I don't buy it. I remember being in martial atrs tournaments and never seeing that. I think that if you are an athlete, especially a professional athlete making millions of dollars to play a game that most of us enjoyed playing for nothing, and you nned to belittle your opponent just to motivate yourself, then you need a reality check. I do not mean to argue but I don't think I would get very far at my job if I had to talk trash about our competitors up the street, or to the other guys in my office in order to just do my job. I suppose that is the gist of my rant....just shut up and do your job.

Cheers,

Brian

I suppose you have a valid point here. But, then again, if you are a sports fan (as I am) it is something you have to put up with in order to watch....that is what I think is a shame. Even if you try to avoid all the hype and just try to catch some highlights on the news or ESPN you are bombarded by some loudmouth selfish brat.

Cheers,

Brian

I dont wanna sound judgemental, but thats what happens when you get kids straight out of high school. I think alot of these guys need that 4 years in college to mature. Plus, its their surrounding, their enviornment. Alot of these guys dont know any better, which is really sad. This also goes on in basketball.

I dunno. These guys would still be living the high life in college. Do you really think they're working their asses off to get that communications degree? Yeah, I know there are hard-working kids with full rides, but they're the exception. I think these bozos need to live for a couple years hand to mouth.

But, then again, life isn't fair. If it were, it'd be pretty ****ing boring.

I live near Detroit, and its been a God damn circus around here. High class hookers have flown in from out of state, celeberties are everywhere, and people are getting drunk off their asses. The tickets are so expensive and sought after that local radio stations aren't even giving any of them away. All this for a stupid football game.

Well, I hear that four years does some people good. Then again, dispite all the education in the world, some guys wont change their thought process and reasoning skills, its their nature, their enviornment, and its all they know. What a shame. Although, knowledge is powerful, and can change people.....

As a veteran of the pizza-slinging business, I feel qualified to answer this. No, no, never, NO! Many reasons, such as--if they find out, they might go crazy and kill you...if they find out and tell other people, business drops, and you'll feel that in your wallet...and I'm a firm believer in what goes around, comes around.

It was always the best policy, in my experience, to just provide better service for the known good tippers. Reason being, these folks had more class, would recognize your extra effort, and would tip even better. That way, you didn't mind so much when you got stiffed by the brain-dead cheapskates.

And this is the way we did it too...I was always under the impression that I got paid to do the job and people did not HAVE to tip me. The odd practice at my place was that the owner would charge a $1 delivery charge for local deliveries (which went to the driver), and they were the ones who would usually tip. but the colleges got free deliverry and almost alweys stiffed the driver.

Cheers,

Brian
