Confessions of a frustrated mountain biker

As some of you know, I live in pow country...(if you don't know what pow is, continue to the next thread) making mountain biking almost impassible (or impossible) My long time fight against the snow I think has come to an end. I got my first lesson today and enjoyed myself quite a bit, while not on par with some good old single track, it was signifigantly better than sitting at home. I am not hitting the hotub to revoed my shins for tommorows ride.

To all you snow junkies, tip of the hat to ya, it ain't to bad

OMG, pow is powder, isn't it?! ISN'T IT?!

So, are you or are you not still frustrated? I think if you stick with it, you'll enjoy skiing even more. It can be addictive, just like riding

The thought of skiiing makes my legs uncomfortable, but i think thats related to falling a few too many times.

I skied for the first time. I think I will grow to enjoy it more and more. And no...I am not frustrated anymore. In the summer I ride/hike 100+days in the summer. In the winter I do nothing. Going from very active to sedentary drove me nuts. I hope I fainlly found something to keep me going through the winter

Compared to snowboarding skiing was simple. I feel 100 times my first day snowboarding and ended up with a concussion on my second day. Two planks and poles sure make a huge difference in how easy it is to learn.

I've been rippin pow pow for 9 years now and I swear there have been times where I have contemplated not going to college and becoming a ski bum instead. It's just that great! The way the whole ski v. snowboarding thing was explained to me was snowboarding is harder to learn but easier to get good at. Skiing is easier to get the basics down but harder to get really good at.

"Pow". Never liked that term... sounds way too pretentious to me. Especially coming from someone who just took their first ski lesson. I've always just skied powder. And never really thought of Whistler as powder country. Typically the snow in the Cascades - US or Canadian - is wetter and heavier than what you'd find in the "powder country" of Utah, for example.

I think the two sports compliment each other nicely. Just wish I could get more turns in on my skis.

Wow, I just enjoyed myself and was mocking the term. Jeez...besides I have put up with the term for the last 5 years of living here.

Maybe you are right, but for 5 years I have been talking with tourists coming from those areas to ride the snow here because the powder is better. Really, I don't know. I just enjoyed myself.

Next time I will be more careful about my terms, I don't want to seem pretentious after just one lesson, that must take years.

We have an entire village outside the village (up a railway) of bums. Its an old abandoned miner town that the folks live in for the winter to just ski and ride. They can hike up partway on blackcomb to avoid the lift costs. Interesting life, but I definately don't have the constitution for it ...

I've only been skiing once, and I fell probably 30 times (good way to stop). I loved it! Even falling down is a blast.
