Off to Michigan this Texan goes.

Headed to East Lansing, MI tomorrow to see the fiancee. Probably the last trip I'll make up there till May for the wedding. It's cake and icing tasting weekend, along with a Keith Urban concert and general get the heck away from school and work for 3 days. Dropping off my wedding band with her after getting it in earlier this week and making sure it was a proper fit, and sending her engagement ring in to the jewler who made it to have them custom made a wedding band to flush fit against it. Full weekend. Weather's going to be crappy here anyways so not going to miss out on any riding.

Talk to you all on the Monday....

... oh, who am I kidding, I'll likely be on here by 10pm CST Sunday night if not sooner.

Have a safe trip. I don't know how you stand the separation, it must be tough. May will be here soon, though!

If there was ever any proof that you're not right, here it is.

Hey, you should come visit me on the way up, I'm in IN. Sounds good with the fiance; does she live with her parents (in the same town) or by herself?

Have a profitable time, cuda.

You know what
That has gotta be the biggest damned stereotype - aside from the one about steers and queers

Ticks -
I've lived 9 years in North Dakota/MN and in those 9 years Ticks were rampant. You checked several times a day. I've been in texas 5 years and I think at most I may have had one tick.

Fire ants -
The fire ants are non-existant and harmless compared to the tiny ants that are no bigger then a 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch. Year round Amdrolling takes care of them though.

Chiggers - ?

I could make a joke here but most people on this bord seem to be racophobic and would take it the wrong way.

Nasty insects - The nastiest insect I've seen are the mosquitoes and they were bad 2 years out of 5 years and that's because we live 1/2 of a mile away from a lake so what can one expect .

At my Uncle's place in Georgia, fireants are freakin everywhere. I used to go around blowing them up with m-80's when i was a (smaller) kid.

11am Saturday morning - fiancee is making Belgian Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. There is snow on the ground but none falling at the moment. Just thought I'd share. *grin*

Oh, and we have enough icing here (4 home made versions, two store bought versions - all versions of butter cream icing) to send Lance's cholesterol levels through the roof! No, we will not be eating it all ourselves. We made a ton of cupcakes in the three wedding cake flavors and doing a taste test with some friends up here later today.

Here's a reference for you...

Chigger do suck in a big way. Friend of mine got a bad case of em after we took a detour on a local trail. Best cure is a lot of itch ointment, clear fingernail polish (kills em) on the spots and wrap your hands in gause at night so you don't scratch at them in your sleep.

--------------------

Back on topic, it's Monday morning and I'm back in Texas. And back to work, school, and all of those other things I escaped for the weekend. Margaret and I are 90% settled on a recipe for the icing on the cake, and we enjoying tasting them all. Along with making a ton of cupcakes to test them on. - yes, I must get back on the bike this week! lol.

Temps here in Dallas apparently weren't TOO much warmer than Michigan, and didn't see any falling snow while I was there, but of course there was a fair bit on the ground. We didn't venture out too much other than to the mall to browse for some registry items and to the concert. One thing I did find more than mildly amusing is all the teenage girls braving the 25 degree weather in skirts and thin tops to look 'hot' for Keith Urban. Only thing that came to my mind was 'stupid'.

On a final note, I read Lance Armstrong's 'Its not about the bike' on the flights to and from Michigan. I'd picked it up a few months ago and it seems like airline flights are about the only time I am ever sitting in one place long enough to read something of any length. As a fellow Texan, cancer surviver, and cyclist, it was a great read. I am thankful each day I caught my skin cancer when I did and I didn't have to endure the chemo that many do. It is a great book, and highly recommended for anyone, cyclist or not, Lance fan, or not.
