Great Googly Moogly....a car just exploded a block away from me.

I was on BF, screwing around on the roadie forum when I heard this loud boom, a metallic thud, and a shaking of my bed.

I went outside, where there was already about 20 folks from neighboring apts out there....I decided to investigate.

When I got there, fire dept was already there, and about 100 or so spectators. Apparently a large truck exploded, went up into the air, and crashed back onto the ground...it left shrapenel for nearly 100ft each direction (my guesstimates based on the large pieces I saw).

I have no idea why I'm posting this, I just thought it was pretty messed up.

You wouldn't happen to be in Baghdad would you? If not then I'd count it as being out of the ordinary.

- we're north of Park and Belcher, but heard a loud boom in the distance about 15 minutes ago... how about some local coordinates?

(or we'll watch it on channel 8 tonight or tomorrow)

- hope no one was hurt - lots of folks were out in the sunshine today!

1st street north and 74th ave. Pinellas Park. I live in the Emerald Pointe complex, and I was on a 3rd floor when I felt it....talk about power.

Yeah, the news choppers are playing c**k-block with each other right now.

All I heard was hearsay, so I'll wait for the evening news to make sure the story is straight.

One rumor was that it was an "oil truck". But I don't know what kind of oil truck is that small.

Thats amazing. One of those once in a lifetime things to be near. Wonder how the soilders respond to those sort of things in Iraq nowadays.

Hope everyone was safe and that this was simply a combustion reaction.

Something blew up around here too. Shook the house like someone was running on the roof. Lasted about half a second. Then 5-minutes later, another BOOM! Just one big shake. Nothing on the news and I can't find anything in today's paper.

we haven't had any blow up yet (notice i say yet), but there is a local problem with mobile meth labs.

"residual petroleum vapors" sounds a bit iffy - since that's what gas tanks are made to hold. if the tank is sealed, even with a spark they won't burn - no oxygen. if it isn't sealed, they might burn, but an explosion is unlikely - no pressure. gasoline is a pretty stable substance.

did anybody see the Mythbusters episode where they tried to blow up a gas tank by shooting at it? didn't work too good.

You sure the explosion wasn't because Dick Cheney shot the truck?

Maybe the driver called Mr. Cheney, "Penis" Cheney....which angered him to the point of hiring a local terrorist cell to blow up this truck, which he assumed to be the driver's but turned out to be owned by none other than Old man Whithers, the guy who runs the haunted amusement park.

...and he would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for those meddling kids.

Stop giving away the plot to next season's 24.

I still have no idea what this 24 is, or why there is a season for it, but it sounds demonic and evil.

On that note, we need cleanup on Isle 12, Old man Whithers forgot the depends again.

Only if he was shooting at something else, and didn't have an SUV stamp on his huntin' license.
