So here you're watching these (American) world class ahtletes at the Winter Olympics - and the sports they compete in on the highest level - behave like soap opera actors or petulant HS kids. Now compare that to an athlete like Lance Armstrong who competes in what is arguably a much tougher sport/event - and all he does is focus, behave with class, do the right thing, train 4-8 hours per day (like 11 months a year) AND win all the time (and ultimately that last element is less important the the ones preceeding it). Now there's something I can look up to.
The more I observe at this Hendrick/Davis skating squabble the worse Hendrick starts to look. There's another talented American kid who should shut the f up and just race. If he has a problem with Davis - I think he'd get more sympathy without all the negativity. Let everyone draw their own conclusions.
One wakeup call for Mr. Hendrick is that he'll find that unlike Bode Miller, a marquee world class SKIER - he participates in speed skating - that's not exactly a sport brimming over with big endorsement dollars and mass participation like downhill skiing. Miller? That misguided party boy is set for life. Hendrick? He'll be lucky if that shiny gold medal isn't hanging from the rearview mirror of his pickup truck in 2 years. At least it will look nice next to the scented pine tree : ).
One other note- how can I have respect for a buffoon like B. Miller - who skis with a slight beer gut - and appears to train less than me - a middle aged hack amateur bike racer who does it for FUN? Please. The fact that he has all that remarkable talent - frankly it seems wasted on a guy like him. And that makes him harder to take.
Get a clue boys. Shut up and ski/skate - or ride your bike.
