Blacked out?

No, this is not about SSFG, but it is about drinking, so I think it belongs in this forum.

I had a few beers earlier, then got on my bicycle. As I rode away from the house I was at, I remembered people on here talking about how they black out once they get on their bike after leaving a bar. I thought to myself "I wonder if I'll remember this in the morning" and was then struck by the thought:

"If I had blacked out, I'd be home already, and I'd have no idea how I got here"

Does that make any sense?

Is that sound reasoning?

Anyone wanna chime in?

one time i was quite drunk and was following a fellow pirate home, i forget exactly how far it is, less say 6 miles, a good 2 miles of that i don't remember at all, but i'm pretty sure i was talking the whole way home. i felt like everything was fine until about 10 feet from the door and i somehow or another didnt see a set of steps and flew down them landing on my face and hands...later on i threw up a bunch and slept well into lunchtime, that was horrible and was later on that i realized i couldnt remember a good 5 minutes of the ride home.

i've done it before. it's kind of an odd feeling when you realize that you aren't really sure what route you took home. actually, more discomforting than odd for me because there's some nasty ass streets with some stupid ass drivers around here.

Interesting. Riding wakes me up really quickly, I get on to my bike and I snap into focus.

Sorry to revive an olde thread but one night I 'blacked out' kayaking. I lived on a sail boat and made it all the way out, in my racing kayak, but once i had to turn, dunksville. Funny stuff. I dont remember getting to the beach either so it doesn't totally fit. And call me stupid for kayaking drunk if you fancy, but it wasnt my fault i tipped, the kayak had been drinking!

ive never blacked out in all my years of consuming alcohol. I know when im extremely drunk when i find it hard to put one foot in front of another, usually i'm (or the barman) smart enough to say its time to stop.

Ahh yes, this ties into the whole discussion of what is really "you"?

For discussion purposes, let's assume that after 10 drinks you black out back to the 5 drink point.

at 8:00 PM you drink your fifth drink. At 10:00 PM you drink your 10th drink (yeah I know this would be a really wussy drunk but stick with me here). At noon the next day you wake up with a headache.

Between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, who is driving your body? The "mental you" who is around at noon the next day was effectively NOT THERE from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM.

What if you did this deliberately? Let's say there's a 2-hour forget pill. You take it and 2 hours later you forget everything back to the moment you took the pill. So you don't have to get drunk and you don't have to pass out and get a headache. You really hate taking exams, so...

At 1:55 you're standing outside the classroom and you pop the pill.
At 2:00 you walk in, start the test.
At 3:30, you finish the test and walk back to your dorm.
At 3:55, you lose all memory back to 1:55 and it seems like you just went from standing outside the classroom to your dorm room in the blink of an eye.

Great, right? EXCEPT... for the 2:00 "you" who still had to take the damn test!

And yet, he knows that the 4:00 "you" isn't going to have had to take the test! That lucky bastard!

The 2:00 "you" is actually going to go away at 3:55 and be replaced by the 1:55 "you" who will then continue on.

Just because you dont rember something doesnt mean it wasn't you there while you were "out". Not nessicarily. If you were having a conversation in a car and then you got into an accident, hit your head and for got everything that happened that day. It was still you who bought the bag o grass that you were so delighted to find in your pocket......ummmm...not like that's ever been the case before....but it is still real cool to find weed. what was my point again. Stay in school!

Take this in fo from a severe chronic alcoholic, you can be fully conscious & have a blackout.A blackout is simply a lapse of memory.
