This morning around like 4am I woke up and was trying to fall back asleep. Well im on my back and my feet are right just past the end of the bed. As I move my left foot down, the muscle behind my leg will contract right. I was tryin to turn to my side then that leg muscle began to contract uncontrollably and wouldnt relax. It was hurting and felt unusual at the same time and lasted for like 10 seconds. Ouch.

Yeah, occaisionally my feet will cramp up when I sleep. And my lower back cramps up sometimes too. Pretty annoying.

Hmmmm, here's a solution for you. Amputation. Who needs legs anyways? Just cut them off and it'll never happen again.

Cramps. I get them often while lying in bed. Usually after a long ride, I may not have hydrated enough. Adding salt to my diet before and after long rides have worked reducing these. That is if your diet allows it.

I agree that it may be dehydration. I've had those too... especially in the !!!freakin!!! toes. I usually have to stand straight up on the bed or on the ground and it goes away.

Oh yeah, the toes - happens particularly often when I swim with flippers. When I sleep, my calves cramp more often than anything else painful

This is what works for me, but I read the other day that there can be a couple of causes. Hydration, potassium, and I don't remember the other - an internet search should give you some cures.

Yah, hamstrings and calves can tighten up in the middle of the night if you flex them just right when rolling around. I've woken up due to intense pain with my ankles by my ears before...

Air matress is soooooo secksi
although I could go for one of those Kraft mattic adjustable mets. Adjust it so that my back has just the right amount of support. Of course then I have to stay in that position, and I find it hard to sleep on my back.

I used to get them a lot. Proper hydration through the day, pre-bed time stretch and potassium supplements...cured mine!

Lack of oxygen to the muscle...causes it to cramp. That's why "walk it off" is good advise. It gets oxygen to the muscles. Also, potassium will help. If you get them a lot, you might want to consider a supplement because while bananas have potassium, usually not enough. Unless you are eating several a day, in which case you'll need a good laxative as well!

Stay hydrated, as mentioned. The balance of electrolytes in the body, i.e. sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, chloride, and carbon dioxide rely on proper levels of hydration.

Also...before bed make sure and get a really good stretch, targeting the areas that tend to cramp. A short Yoga session will calm the mind and stretch the body. Since doing this, I don't cramp at all at night anymore.

I think I need more potassium, but I seldom ever have problems with my msucles cramping.
