Speaking of dead chemists, gotta get back to work before my labmates kill me.

Thanks for the laugh, EJ123.

Perhaps the original post will be a lighthearted extra credit question on an exam someday if I become a professor.

Not nearly as funny, but for those of you who have taken organic chemistry, a true story...

A retired colonel in the USAF who served during his career as an organic chemistry professor at the US Air Force Academy (and first taught me organic chemistry when I was at the USAFA for two weeks for a high school program) told me about a student who managed to score a zero on one of his exams. The person evidently did not answer any of the questions, but instead, wrote in response to the exam "This is a trick question. There is no R on the periodic table."

For the non-organic chemists reading this, there indeed is no R on the periodic table. However, R is the symbol used for a generic fragment of an organic molecule.

That is the most hilarious and unlucky thing I've ever heard. What a student... The 'R' symbol is a major foundation to even figuring out organic chem.

^^^Yeah, what a student! If someday I become a professor and I get a student like that, I'd wonder what I was doing wrong as a professor.
