    School cancellation, in May?

Yep, that is correct. Not for snow either .
As for now, about 8" of rain has fallen in the past 48 hours alone. It has been raining straight for a good 6 days now. Forecast shows rain until later this week too...

So an unlikely email comes in, School cancelled for flooding! And 135 more as of now across NH.

I dont think the school itself is flooded. It's all the roads around it that are flooded. Although the basement floor might be flooded, but I doubt it.

They just add days onto the end of the school year. Its not like your getting out of anything.

You know, people always say that. But you are indeed getting things. It's that spontaneous element that is present here, that you do not get with a scheduled day off. I had a fair share of homework due tomorrow, was not wanting to do it tonight, and then its like that feeling of relief. Good stuff

Yea thats allways great. A surprising day off when you really need it. Unfortunitely in california during high school I never got any days where we got a surprise day off. Honestly I remember wishing someone would set our school on fire or something so I could get a day off. I always hated school

No surprise days off? THat must be crap. We have snow days every so often, thats quite nice. 2 years ago we had a transformer day, where the school had no electricity for 2 years. Never had a flood day though.

The closest we've ever come, is once or twice a year we have fairly bad storms. Mostly lots of raining and wind. Never got any surprise days off though this year we had over 30 days of rain, most rain we've had in years. Since I'm not in school anymore, I wouldn't know if any schools got closed or not. Probably didn't though.

A few years back our local schools either closed or excused student who weren't not able to attend due to road closings when we had flooding.

I can remember being let out early in May when I was in elementary school in Indiana due to a heat wave. Our school did not have air conditioning. Yes, it was during the dark ages.

Haha yea the Hummer might for one be of practical use today. Any of these giant vehicles with 24" clearance.
My basement now, is accumulating water at about .5" per hour. Waking up this morning was a sad sight. My shop, the high spot of the basement, was flooded .

It did this last year or a year ago didn't it ? I remember seeing a slideshow of a bunch of swans swimming past a mailbox.

Hahaha. I was imagining a house sinking with just its roof tip visible and 2 forlorn cats sitting on the roof meowing as the Hummer drove away

Portsmouth area (duh). The local GM dealer (Portsmouth Chevrolet) saved our vacation 2 years ago. Hope they're not completely underwater.

Wow. There a pit in the far corner of my backyard, its about 7ft deep and 8ft diameter. THe intent was for it to be used to burn brush. Well its full to the top with water.
I'm not even sure that it will ever be dry, unless we have a dry summer. I think we have a duck pond growing .
Maybe I should get some frogs to cultivate these wetlands

It sucks, we all thought MC would get off on monday, but it never happened.

Melrose High, ONE town north of us, is flooded and has no school.

But MC, a private school where most of the kids come from the north shore, still has classes with 1/4 of the students absent, and 1/4 of the teachers too.
