Healthy fruit smoothies

I'm totally getting into smoothies now. I was wondering if anyone has any favorite smoothie recipes that include ice, fruit, and fruit juices. No sugar, yogurt, or ice cream.

I've found it hard to find recipes that are only ice based on the internet.

Heres the one I tried yesterday

Ice
bannanas
blueberries
pineapple juice
couple tblspoon of sugar (optional)

I put in 2 tablespoons of sugar because the bannanas were totally unripe and I wasn't sure if the blueberries were sweet or not. If you let the bannanas ripen, you won't need sugar.

It tasted great though.

You can do the one I listed with yogurt. Use a lot less ice and no milk. Kid doesn't like it that way though as it comes out pretty thick.

Here's smoothie advice: Freeze bananas (all fruit, really) or put them in the freezer before your ride. Take a peeled banana and put it inside a glass you are going to use and put that in the freezer. Then, when you make your smoothie, the banana and glass are cold (the banana will almost be frozen) and you won't need ice this way, enhancing the flavor of the smoothie. This only works if all your fruit is frozen, I get bags of frozen fruit from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods so I can make smoothies at a moment's notice.
A vegan alternative to honey is agave nectar. Agave Nectar / syrup
Also, SilkŪ soymilk works quite nicely if you don't want to use milk.

Also, to ripen a banana more quickly, put it in a paper bag with an apple; the apple will release nitrogen which will ripen the banana really fast.

Here's a side note I'm proud of: I wrote to the vice president of Jamba Juice a few years ago and really "sold" him on putting a Jamba in my neighborhood. I sent data, photos and pleas. He wrote back and agreed it was a good idea. One opened six months later about two years ago and I've been there twice. I realized if I'm near my home, I'll make my own damn smoothie!

I make them all the time.

Go to the area where frozen concentrated juice drinks are at the grocery store and near that area they have already frozen fruit in bags. You can get strawberries, peaches, blueberries, mango, and mixtures of those and all kinds of others.

Then go to the ethnic area, spanish, and they have cans of fruit nectar of various types.

Just grab a bunch of all kinds and mix every way you can think of.

I wait until the bananas are really ripe, then I peel them, wrap them in saran wrap, and freeze them. They're awesome in smoovies.

Crushed ice
papaya,
orange juice
pineapple
coconut milk from a can
yogurt if you'd like to thicken a bit.

Have a shot of Meyers dark rum too and alternate sips.

Aloha baby!

I don't make smoothies, but I was watching one of those food shows, and they had milk and tofu, combined with ice and fruit. Then if you can do this, juice yourself a few carrots- they add so much sweetness to a drink that you don't need sugar at all. If you're totally vegan, you can omit the milk.

Some vegans do and others don't. The ones that don't eat honey usually cite the fact that it is an animal by-product, much like milk. Only a very few will tell you that it's because they don't want to "exploit" bees. I was pretty much vegan for a couple of years, but I ate honey.

Thank you for putting forth the explanation. I am struggling with the exploitation of the bees bit, but I guess that is their deal, not mine. Honey is goooood..! (wasn't that in Pulp Fiction? )
