Haven't checked in a while, but you used to be able to get airport diagrams with gate numbers online. That might help you get the lay of the land.

Almost anybody in uniform knows exactly where you are and where you need to go.

Mirona is right. I am assuming that you are changing flights?

Depending on the airline, they usualy have an agent standing at the gate when you get off the plane, just walk up to them and tell them where you are going, they will tell you which gate to go to and the fastest way to do it (sometimes you have to catch a train).

Also, listen up as your flight gets close to landing, sometimes the flight attendants will announce the connections and their gates, so you will know before you get off the plane (just be careful as that can always change).

In your seat pocket in front of you (don't I sound like a flight attendant?!), there should be an airline magazine and in the back will be maps of most major airlines. If you know the gate you are flying into and the one you will need to get to, that map will be helpful.

And if that isn't enough to help you out, there will be monitors all over the place, just look up your flight and find the gate you need to go to. the signage at airports is usually pretty good, but if you get confused, ask anyone in uniform.

Safe travels!
Liz

oh, and one more thing and this is the mother in me...don't mess around! FIRST find your connecting gate, and after you get there, if you have time, then you can go get a snack, browse the shops, call everyone you know on your cell phone, whatever. And you must call your mom/dad/grandma/whoever will be worried about you, when you find that gate! we will all be worried!!! :-)

Also, since you are pretty young, many airlines will assign someone to you and make sure you get to where you are supposed to be.

There's three terminals, A, B, C. C is only continental airlines I think, so if thats not what you're flying, you'll be in the other two. http://www.nwa.com/travel/images/EWR2.gif

Don't hold me to this, but for terminals C and A or B, the gates are on the third floor, and baggage claim and passenger pick up is on the ground floor (just follow the mass of people leaving the plane, usually works for me) so you gotta go down two flights of stairs. You can usually find out what terminal you're flying into the day of your flight.
