Oh, what to do!?!

Someone offered to buy my bike (Yamaha RZ 350NC) for $3,000 AND I got additional checks from jury duty and from work FOR jury duty. Hmmmmm.......my choices:

- Ellsworth Enlightenment (hardtail - retail)
- Ellsworth Moment (squishy - retail)
- Santa Cruz Heckler (squishy - retail)
- Moots Rigor Mootis (hardtail - at cost) plus more money in addition
- Hardwood living room floor
- Custom designed paint detail on my show car
- Savings

I don't NEED either of these or eye surgery anymore but it sure is nice to have surprise fun money!

Oh, what to do?

Didn't you say you loved that Enlightenment in another thread, or was it someone else?

If you're selling something, then I say you can buy something...my rule anyway...

If you're gonna go with an SC, go with a Blur.

Blur is XC, Heckler is more versatile (AM).

+1 At least for some of that money.

As for whatever doesn't get saved, I dunno... have fun deciding whichever one you want the most.

I'd say....save it.

Well, the Ellsworth is pretty darn tempting...but save it up for a misc use fund...you never know when it can come to good use.

I would say get the enlightment, but you already have two great bikes that are in really good shape that need to be ridden more. So, save it I guess.

One of them was in the "Brag on your car" thread (I think). It's in here somewhere.

If you are serious about the Enlightenment I may be able to help you out a bit with a frame. I'm "thinking" about getting rid of my frame and fork.

OK then... get an Epic.

For about $3500 you can get that sexy carbon frame and build it up or for the same price get an Epic Marathon. Best of both worlds: HT and full squish.

Yea, get a carbon epic. That would suit your needs, considering you don't race or ride alot of dirt trails.

'cause it's so much more inappropriate than any of the other bikes discussed already. You afraid she'll have a better bike than you? Little insecure?

why not save the money? sooner or later you will be in a time where you need the extra cash. So if you save it, you will have it.

The frame is $1,000 new. If I sell it I will sell it for half that.

*note - not trying to sell it here, if I do it will be in the for sale forum or via pm. Sorry.....

She already has 2 bikes that are better than mine. So, no. The only reason I'm saying the epic is totally stupid, is because what non- racer needs a carbon frame?

At that point, it's about the want, not need. One of these days you'll grow to appreciate that

At what point? you mean old age? Honestly, I've grown too apreciate the dollar. I'd be happy with a plain old rockhopper honestly. If anyone has the money to drop 3500 just on the epic frame, that shows me they probably need to find a better use for their money.

Or they work hard for their money and want to reward themselves a little. When you get to the point where you can indulge yourself, you'll understand. Until then, don't try to inflict your narrow viewpoint and judgement on others.

What the heck are you smoking. You are reading into my posts and judging me a little bit too harshly. I'm just thinking its stupid to buy carbon if you aren't a racer. There is nothing wrong with indulgence, and I completely understand wanting to do so.

but your level of indulgence and someone else's is vastly different. If I chose to get that bike, or the carbon Stumpy, it wouldn't be because I'm all that good a rider, just that I like it. Would that make me stupid? Apparently in your eyes because you think I should do something "better" with my money. Not your call, so you should just stay silent about it.

Obviously. I can't even afford a rockhopper yet. I'm just saying no one needs carbon if they aren't a racer. You can build a wonderful al or ti bike and still indulge yourself. Never did I say that buying a carbon bike would make you stupid. Don't twist my words around.
