AP senior english, what is it like?

I have the opportunity to take this next year, I am leaning toward taking it. Even though english is not my thing, if I pass the AP exam I will get some college credit. Maybe I won't have to take the general english course, and can replace it with something fun. My question is, what is AP english like?
I hear it's all preparation for the AP exam. So does that mean its a lot of factual information, not necessarily a lot of research papers?

All depends on how it's taught. Why not ask some current seniors who took it?

The test is the same. But how the teachers go about preparing you doesn't have to be the same. For that matter, their choice of reading material doesn't have to be the same since the list is so long that you won't be reading it all anyway.

I'll say this, though, since it seems to be what you're really after. You won't get a good score on the AP English tests (do they still do separate composition and literature tests?) just by memorizing things. So most likely, the class won't be just a bunch of memorization, either.

I certainly hope it is not all memorization, I despise those kind of classes. For this reason, latin has become phantomcow enemy #1
