so, i really like my job. i hated my old one, but this one is fantastic.
i've just spent the past two days working on and driving a '68 Dino 246 GTS, getting it properly fettled for the owner to use it. the car had been in storage for almost five years, and only has 36k kilometers on the odometer. but after i got done with it, it was awe-inspiring. i've driven newer Ferraris (all 512TRs), and haven't been that impressed - but the Dino has changed my mind. the scream of that quad-cam V6 right behind the small of your back is unbelieveably addicting - once the 'box and tyres get warmed up, nothing exists but the road ahead. only bad thing is, once i fixed it, it had to go back.
but that's o.k.; this afternoon, i got to tear down the top end of a Land Rover for a gasket replacement. actually very fun, believe it or not. i've also got a mid-80s R-R Silver Spirit i'm doing an A/C overhaul on, and Frank Sinatra's last car (Bentley Turbo R) came in on a flatbed for some minor repairs. every day is something new to work on, and usually it's either vintage, exotic, or both. the most "pedestrian" cars we service are MGs and Land Rovers - and even those are cool.
this is the only job i've had that i enjoy as much as my days as a bike shop wrench.
so, does anyone else have a job, new or old, that they thoroughly enjoy? i know there are lots of folks who hate their jobs; i used to be one of them. i'd just like to hear about anybody else who likes theirs...
