How much would it take?

Would you camp in a line for three days for a $79 chair and a chance to win a $250 gift certificate? Crazy or Crafty?

Only if it was named "Törd". BTW, I've heard, and this may be DEAD wrong, that their product names are really random and weird...i.e. if the furniture was listed in English translation, it would read Acorn, Toe, Puddle, Fish, etc. That would be pretty funny if true.

Two days camped out in exchange for $90-330 worth of stuff? ($80 chair and $10-250 gift certificate) Umm, no thanks. On workdays, it would mean two days off from work. On weekends, my free time is too precious to waste that way.

I have figured out how much it would take for me to do this and factoring in overtime and discomfort pay, the total is somewhere up near $10,000. I would NEVER EVER NEVER do this. Not even if it was Tex's day to have the brain.

The first person in line who thought she was going to hit the jackpot only wound up with about $750 worth of stuff - and that's by her estimate. Local DJ's to whom she was speaking were doubtful.

btw - it was heavily covered by local news outlets for god only know's what reason. One station played a clip of a local news anchor that was pretty funny....

"And when we come back, we'll check in with the line at Ikea. Apparently you can get anything at Ikea. Hopefully, these people will be able to find lives there."

None of the stuff in Ikea seems to be made in any Scandanavian country, despite the cutesie names. It's the same cheap stuff that I see in any warehouse or *Mart store, from China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, etc.

supposedly they are "designed" by various scandinavian people.

Kinds of like how some bikes now sport a "deisgned in the USA" badge, even though they are built elsewhere.

Line camping for a retail opening ranks slightly lower on the crazy totem than line camping for a movie release.

Gah! Tricksy!

From the wording of your post I thought you were talking about a deal to camp at some ski slopes for summer mountain biking and get a 3 day lift pass for $79 altogether. I was like "Totally! As long as I can get the time off work."

I feel cheated.

Guh! Are we that desperate that we stand in line for $10 bucks in gift certificates to eat at that crappy Ikea cafeteria? *shudder*

Thank you, President Bush.

That was another thing, apparently not long after opening there were 257 people in line at the cafeteria to buy Swedish meatballs. I don't know about Canton, but our grocery store sells them right in the freezer section. No one that the local DJ's questioned came up with a really good answer for why they were in the line. They paid people $100 to get out of line (and were eventually asked by Ikea to stop) and one of the people who took the money was back in the line the next day saying that they'd actually paid him to get out of line, not stay out of line. Crazy, crazy.

Errr...how is it Bush's fault that people don't understand the value of their personal time or the cost of camping? These people are suckers, plain and simple, and are the same kind P.T. Barnum said of, "It is morally wrong to let suckers keep their money."
