Some 4th pictures for the paper

All work and some play...

For me as well as these guys.

Had to photograph the fireworks for the paper last night, took the g/f along (or did she take me ??? ).

Not a bad show i guess, my favorite picture of the night was this--took a bunch of these during the finish

How i shot #2 (as taken by the lady...). I had my camera on a remote, shot at f/22 (for most the night) in bulb. Would open the shutter as the canon fired, as the firework began to fizzle out i'd flash the 550 by hand @ 1/2 power to expose the people watching, then close the shutter.

Cool stuff. I was going to shoot the fireworks display here but I went to shoot a softball game that people were playing nearby before it started and my battery died. Forgot to bring a spare, too.

Nice shots, better than I managed. I need to get a remote shutter release. I got a couple that were passable, but we tried a new spot this year and the fireworks were low on the horizon. Most of them looked like a roof was on fire.

The remote is far less important then the tripod.

Roger that. I have a decent tripod, but I have the world's shakiest hands. Some of my shots came out decent, might have to post a couple.

Fair enough, does your camera have a timer? That is how i would take the pictures before a remote.

Yeah it does, and I've done that in the past with fairly static shots. I have the Canon 350 D, bought to replace my Rebel 2000 because I got to a point a couple of years ago where I couldn't justify burning film when I have a cheap point-n-shoot digital. So I've been away from an SLR for quite a while and have to relearn which modes do what. Of course when you realize what you wanted (after the fact) it's easier to learn and remember what you should have done.

If I have to take a picture of anything that moves faster than a mountain, it comes out fuzzy.
