So can I sue the newspaper for littering?

For any of you in the Baltimore area, you may be experiencing the same problem.

A new newspaper, The Baltimore Examiner, recently popped up around here. It looks like they offer subscriptions, but it seems for now they are giving the paper away (I guess to seed the market).

Problem is I don't want their paper. All it does is crap up my driveway. They build up, get rained on etc.

I have called 7 times, talked to supposed managers, to no avail. I am seriously considering contacting an attorney friend to see if I have any recourse (it is a matter of principle now).

I used to have this same problem with a free newspaper in this area. I know a friend who went all the same channels you are talking about and never got them to stop delievering the paper.

Good luck....if you find out the trick to make them stop, post it here as I'm sure many people will be interested.

wait for them to throw the paper in the morning. Be waiting in the driveway when they pass. Catch the paper and throw it back at the truck. Make sure it clunks. You wont get another paper.

Take some time and enjoy yourself with this solution. Pick up the paper for several days and list all the local advertisers. Call or write them to tell them you'll not patronize them because they advertise in that paper. Tell 'em why if they are interested. Then take a couple of day's papers at a time and throw them in the street. Then call the city and tell them that they were thrown from a vehicle in your neighborhood. Another one I tried on a local rag once, was to take the paper and throw it out at their offices.

Shopping centers, etc. which permit flyers to be affixed to my car also get to pick them up. I just throw them on the ground.

You may be right about the seed the market notion. However, it may actually be a false attempt to drive up the circulation numbers they use to price their advertising. IN other words, they sell a bunch of copies to a third party to be tossed about and then tell their advertisers that these are part of the circulation.

Here's a pretty good article about it and a fellow who had trouble with free papers in his driveway.

Good luck with that lawsuit. Every suggestion so far will cost you more in time and energy than just throwing out the paper.

Roll them tight, tie them up and use them in the fireplace when the weather turns cold.

Throw 'em in a neighbor's driveway until they're mad enough about the multiple papers to complain to the newspaper about it. Then switch neighbors. Be sneaky. You'll have an army of supporters in no time. Or a lynch mob, if you get caught. (don't get caught)

Collect bout 4-500 pounds of it, then bring it back to th front of their building and dump it there.
Or slip on a piece of newspaper, then sue for pain and suffering. That'll get their attention.

If you REALLY have a lot of time on your hands, make a paper mache model of yourself giving the finger to the man then put it up on your lawn.

Unless your out of town, couldn't you just walk down the driveway and pick them up instead of letting them pile up? It shouldn't take too long, unless you have a really long driveway.

I would just toss them into the trash untill the free trial is over.

In my suburb I get ten free newspapers a week, all left at the base of the letterbox. Neither of them is worth reading. I just put them stright into the recycle bin.

i say take kabloinks idea and pic them up and store them in a big box for a while. then one day take them all and shred them with some water and flour and turn it into paper mache. then make a massive wall infront of your house so they cant throw more of it into your yard. you can also spray paint on this wall what ever msg you may like the mailman to read.
barbed wire is also good for intruders

Ja Wohl. I leave an old packing crate outside by the mailbox for junk mail and papers. Into the recycle each week. The local Fire Department gave me a warning for just burning the stuff. Maybe write about your problem to all of their competators in all the local types of media.

ooooooooh new idea that could actually work. take your recycle bin and put it out by your mailbox, and tape up your newspaper box and put a sign with an arrow that says to put them in th e recycle bin. then they will and when garbage day comes its already out there and good to go!
