Computer problem

This is the third time this has happened. I am online doing whatever, and then all of a sudden bam the computer screen turns off and the computer shuts it self down. But it doesnt shut down and turn off, it just shut downs. The power is still on, but it will not restart. I turned off the red master button thing and then back on. The monitor turned on but did not display anything. The green button on the bottom went yellow, idle I guess. So I returned off the red button, took the monitor power cable out then in and everything worked again. Was could cause this. This time today, it turned off once I clicked the mouse.

sounds like its probably a phsycial connection thats lose or messed up as oposed to something to do with your computer.

but thats about as far as my wisdom goes.

Failing power supply?

Go into Windows event log and see if anything is recorded when this happens.

How much attention are you actually paying to your computer? Yeah, you spend a lot of time with it entertaining yourself, but do you actually stop every now and then to give it your undivided attention? Do you ever listen to what it wants instead of just satisfying your own needs? Because, to me at least, it sounds like your computer is tired of being treated like an object and is doing these random "shut downs" to get your attention. Maybe you two should just go out sometime. Talk. And I really mean talk. No distractions. No internet. No games. No porn. Just you and your computer. Because if you've been together as long as I'm assuming, this really may be something worth working on, ya know?

He said "talk to", not "scream at".

Hmmmmm... this may be more serious than I thought.

Have you been getting any strange phone calls to your house? Such as someone hanging up as soon as you answer? Does your computer get deffensive when you ask it what it's been doing all night? Have you ever found any discs in your computer's drive that you know aren't yours? This could be bad. Be strong, man. Don't do anything rash.

more seriously, check out microsofts site about that error.

Also, get the latest version of motherboard monitor (MBM5 was the latest one I used), configure it, and use it...it will use your computer's on board sensors and display the temps...it's not as accurate as a thermocouple, but it will do just fine for troubleshooting. There is also a util called DTemp, that is for displaying hard drive temps....it's a good thing, and you should get it.

You forgot to mention, the strange phone calls that had modem sounds on the other end with quick disconnect when he answered.

Yes, HP computers ARE evil.

My bro had a nasty problem with one about 5 years ago. He spent about $500 in long distance tech support phone calls where they were having him change memory slots, cards into different PCI slots, etc... before they finally broke down and let him RMA the thing. A computer novice shouldn't have to be changing card and memory slots.....company should just give immediate RMA and let their own techs look at it.
