pwn3d by the United States Post Office

So I have an insured package with delivery signing that was going to arrive today. Luckily I had my appointment and was staying home for the day because of it. I leave the garage door open, and hear the sound of the mail truck. I go outside to find the mail truck driving out of my neighborhood, look in my mailbox and what do I find?

The "Sorry We Missed You!" slip. They did not even get out to ring my doorbell to have me sign the package! So I call the Post Office asking when I can pick this up. Lady on the phone asks for me address, I give it. She says my house is almost at the end of the route and that she will be back before 3:00 so I can pick up my package 3:00 and past. So at about 3:30 I go in to pick it up, and its not there! I am told to come back in an hour.

I have a new appreciation for UPS

Neither FedEx, UPS, or USPS bothers to attempt to deliver items which are either too large for the mailbox or that require a signature. They either leave them with the management office, or they place a note in my mailbox. It really irritates me. Once, my wife's former OB/GYN sent her a Certified letter. I was home all day the day it arrived, yet the postal carrier never attempted to deliver it, he simply placed a Delivery Notice in the mailbox. The next day, I had to walk the 2 blocks over to the post office and wait for 45 minutes for someone who knew what they were doing to find the letter. I called my wife, told her who it was from, and she told me to open it. It was a letter saying they hadn't heard from her in 1.5 years, and she needs to make an appointment. She called them and told them that she changed doctors 1.25 years ago, because they wouldn't answer her questions. I wasted all that time for something that the secretary at the doctor's office could have solved with a phone call.

Our postal carrier here at work does the same thing. "Sorry we missed you", says the little slip; how could he have missed us if he never even came to our office? He's just too lazy to come up here. He claims he can't leave his cart unattended, but we have an elevator, with plenty of space for his cart, but no, that would require work. We have to wait until the next day to get the package or letter. Bastardo.

I get that with FedEX...they never bring it up....last time the guy came up, while I had the door open....looked at me funny, handed me the slip, and tried to run off. He still refused to hand me the package, because it's so far from his truck, but he will make the run to hand out a stupid slip, and refuse to deliver to the office.....

Jacktard....I hope he gets fiberglass in his underpants.

I've had that happen several times. A formal complaint to the Postmaster usually rectifies that particular issue. If the Postmaster is lame, it might take a couple or bumping it up to their boss, whatever that position is called.

UPS does the same thing and I just call and make them bring the damn thing back. That's when they can find the house, of course. Usually they don't even make the effort and when I'm tracking it online, it'll change from delivery anticipated at XXX to exception error. Delivery rescheduled to the next day. I've even taken to calling them the morning I'm expecting a package to make sure it gets on the right truck and they still screw it up. UPS is the worst.

FedEx has done this a couple of times over the past few years and I call their customer service number and insist they bring it out that same day. Turn the lazy driver around and get him back to the house. Usually works.

I had a couple of items damaged during delivery by the USPS. I've been waiting several months for the insurance claim on the last item. I'm a patient person, but I wish those items hadn't been damaged -- I largely blame the sender for poor packaging.

I grew up with my postman's kids, so I get treated well.

When I used to be involved in marine aquariums, I had lots of interesting discussions with delivery people - the FedEx driver that delivered my route eventaully started hanging around for a few minutes each time to see all the colorful fish and corals as I unpacked them.

Tuesday I saw the postman outside my building mixing a drink in his postal bag on wheels. He had a bunch of little bottles in there. Nice!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm patient because my mom delivers mail for USPS. When I mention that my mom delivers (for another city), I usually get a good response from the local office.

I used to work for Fedex in the early 90's and we were not encouraged to bring anything back to the station undelivered. I tried anything I could to not have to go back the next day. I would try the neighbors on both sides, leave with apt. mgr or the business next door, get the customer signed up on my release list, anything to not make a second trip! I would even go back later in my route if I was near the area without being told to do so. Guess things have changed...

Its funny that people complain about UPS, they are always the best. THey always go to my door, ALWAYS. I get a lot of packages though, so they know me a little bit, so that might help. Still, they always check and I appreciate it. If not, the UPS terminal is a mile from my house .
