Netflix - service going downhill fast!

I was just wondering if this is happening with anyone else. When I first signed up with netflix service was awesome. I received every movie I requested almost immediately, this was during the trial month. I received 19 movies the first month. Now I had read that there was a lawsuit and that after the first month most people had to wait a little longer for new releases and more popular movies. I was okay with that. The second month I was still getting just as many movies, I just had to wait a little longer for a few of them, no big deal. While I was waiting they were sending me other movies on my list.

Okay, now the problem. During the first couple of months all of my movies were coming from Pennsylvania, just one state away. I received most movies in one business day. Well, now the past couple of weeks they have started shipping my movies to me from California. What this is doing is making it take four days for me to receive a movie and four more days to send it back. Now instead of getting four or five movies a week I am lucky to get two movies a week.

Has this been happening to anyone else? I want to see if it is a coincidence before I contact netflix about it. If it is going to continue to be this way I will be switching over to Blockbuster.

Oh, if it matters I'm on the 3 movies at a time, unlimited number per month plan.
I may be fat but I'm slow enough to make up for it.

Taking a tip from Siu Blue Wind, I too am typing a lengthy passage of text down here to demonstrate the enormous amount of space available should one wish to use it-- in sharp contrast to the avatar text above this part.

There's been credible reports in the news and in blogs that Netflix deliberately slows down your rented dvd's when you reach some sort of critical threshold. IN other words, rent too many too quickly and they put the brakes on.

I found if you ask for a very uncommon title, they bring it from their california main depot.

Also, they might have problems with their Penn depot. Refer to the pains that Branford bike went through this week for an example of the pains of this heatwave.

Yeah they do throttle folks if they cycle through discs like mad. I'm the opposite, I hold discs for ages at a time. Pretty much it's because they lose money on the folks who get the 3-at-once plan, and cycle it in a way to get around 25rentals a month. Keep in mind they are paying shipping both ways, plus operational costs.

It's not fraud, the suit was about them not mentioning anything about this, or making it at least somewhat clear. All the online rental joints do this.

IMO if you pick up enough to get throttled, it sounds like someone needs more outdoors time. Not trying to be an ass or anything, but that's quite a bit of time behind the tube.

I get plenty of out door time; this has no bearing on the fact that I pay for a service, and I want what I pay for. We don't have cable, movies are pretty much the only thing we watch. I am to the point of cancelling Netflix, they are not only slow, but they frequently send discs that are so scratched as to be unwatchable. Then there is always the lovely surprise of opening a disc that reads one thing on the sleeve, yet is actually something else entirely. Once we rented Dr. Zhivago, and got Jennifer Aniston's "The Good Girl" . Or the time when we rented all three parts of the Godfather. The sent us Part I, disc one. and inside the sleeve for disc two was Godfather II. We rented I and II at the same time, so we had two copies of Part II, and couldn't watch it since we wanted to see how part I ended.

I'm pretty sure I get plenty of time outside. However in the evenings I enjoy watching a movie with my wife. Didn't know that was a bad thing.

Oh, I also enjoy watching a movie on trainer days. It's also nice to have a movie or two to watch when I am stuck at home trying to relax the day before a race. I think that in general television sucks, I much prefer watching movies. I guess that is the reason that I could justify spending the money for netflix, now I just want the service that I pay for.

That's how it worked for me first two months. Now I send movie out on Monday, get a new movie next Monday or Tuesday if I'm lucky. This week I haven't had a movie since Monday. Supposed to get one tomorrow and another one on Monday.

I only keep netflix for max off about 4 months and then cancel for a few months, just rejoined currently getting the movies on Wednesdays & Saturdays getting 6 a week, in a couple off months they will start holding them a day before mailing them.

Also if you get a movie froma different location, and you have a movie from your normal location you can mail them back in the same envelope helps speed it up.

I have this happen several times as I get a lot off the british dvd's

Just about a year now. What I have noticed is a delay if the movie has to come from another distrobution center. We've recieved a few from California, takes time to make the trip here and home which will slow things down. Otherwise, we've been very happy with their service.

Good to hear, hopefully it's just a coincidence that so many are coming from California during the same time period. I'll give it a couple more weeks to see if it continues or fixes it's self.

One thing I've found to help a bit.

Look for the bar code on the DVD sleve, make sure it's visible thru the window in the mailing envelope. Maybe coincidence, but it works here.

    Good luck

Another thing about them that sucks is the way they prioritize. I put Eight Below on my list long before it was ever released to dvd. It was released on 6/20/06. I am supposed to finally get it today or tomorrow. I know some others that just joined netflix, during their free trial they put Eight Below in their queue and received it the following day. Just doesn't seem right.

Sounds like you got a good deal there.

When I lived in Miami they usally came form Fort Lauderdale, Now that I live in Charlotte they come from Greensboro and I usually get the 1 day mail service, at the moment I am averaging 24 dvd's a month.

That will slow down agian soon and then I will cancel again until next time.
