I feel guilty for enjoying this thread. Especially after gorging on four hours of original Trek Uncut this morning after my ride.

Then again, guilt is a human emotion. So illogical...

That is true. Has anyone seen the abomination that is Star Trek 2.0? It's like, the Original Series with a bunch of scrolling internet chat and dumb stats for each episode. It's extremely stupid. I liked The Next Generation, and DS9 was OK, but I grew up on the original Star trek, Monty Python and The Muppet Show, sort of a perfect nerd trifecta.

My nerd trifecta would be Dr. Who, Monty Python and Red Dwarf.

Only the original. The new one is simply weak.

haha ironically I don't like monty python. Red Dwarf was/is good for its look and feel but really didn't interest me as a story.

No way.....I think they are doing a FANTASTIC job with the new ones.

And saying "the original" is kind of misleading as they had 8 doctors between 1963 and 1993.

It was a sit-com....it wasn't really designed to have a "deep story". LOL

I've heard really good things about the new one, I need to rent those... Anyway, I like most incarnations of Dr. Who, although Star Trek pwns them in the special effects department. Best thing in the last decade was Farscape, in my opinion, which the new Dr. Who seems to be emulating, to some extent.

By original I am talking about the first 4 or 5 (I am not EXACTLY sure) but I didn't like the new ones. They didn't appeal to me.

Good point...but still haha...

I love my sci fi but find more of it to weak today (not to derail the thread) I love both the morbitiy and explorative nature of old sci fi. Stuff today seems to fluffy. Or maybe I am just more bitter than I used to be hahaha

I like the older sci-fi better too, but I'd say the opposite. The new stuff focuses too much on being "techy" and not on cool stories. I don't care what genre a show/book is....the story is what makes it good.

As I said, I loved Doctor Who....I'm a HUGE fan. One of the best attributes of the show, IMO is that they don't spend a lot of money on special effects and don't try to make it super high-tech (explaining the scientific principal behind everything like Star Trek did).

Well, I somewhat agree with you.

At some point they did get a bit weaker, but #7 (Sylverster McCoy) was quite brilliant I thought.

Here are wikipedia entry with list of all the doctors in case you are trying to reference anyone in particular.

Most people remember Tom Baker the most....he did play the role for the longest time.

Check it out: I just started watching reruns of The Next Generation for the first time , since it was on the air. What dumbfounded me was how they were such complete...uh...vaginas about everything. I watched the first one where they encountered the Borg-They're face-to-face with an enemy ship, they'd already sustained casualties and had a portion of their ship cut off, so what do they do? Have two seperate conferences, with their empathic counselor and Whoopi ****ing Goldberg!

Kirk would've stayed on the bridge, blown them to bits and have slept with someone, by then.

And what does that have to do with female genitalia again?
